As for me, I'm going to try to avoid the mega popular NES classics as much as I can and stick to games you may have never played before. These arn't in any particular oder, just as they come to me.

Rockman 2 (okay, well I tried to stick to Famicom only, but this game is just too good to ignore)
Why: Why not?! Rockman 2 is probably the best game in the Rockman francise. It expanded upon the framework of the first game in every way but didn't add so much it became confusing as a result. The graphics, the music, the challenge and the fun factor all blend together to creatre a pivitial 8-bit gaming experience.

Konami Wai Wai World 2
Why: Much less confusing and much more fun to play than the original Wai Wai World, the second has a much greater pick-up-and-play feel to it. The game is very fun to play though using various reconizeable Konami icons of the day and it's two player mode makes it even more fun to wromp though. The game is really great to look at and it's got a lot of veriety in the stages.

Famicom Wars
Why: Have you ever played a ____Wars game on any Nintendo platform? If you have, you can thank this game for all the fun you've experienced. Though the most primitive game in the series, the game still looks and plays almost identically to the others, even the newest DS version. The menus are in Japanese with a good deal of kanji so you'll need to sort though what options of which, but after a while you'll realize what's what and the game is a blast to loose hours on.

Might Atom (Astroboy)
Why: Based on the 80's anime, the game plays like a beat 'em up cartoon. Astroboy goes though the game collecting coins from baddies while exploring the landscape. To be honest, I can never get that far in it as you die with only one hit, and although you can ifinitely respawn as long as you have points, I eventually loose intrist in it. I'd say the best thing about it is it's titlescreen music, a wonderful 8-bit rendition of the anime's main theme song.

Mother (Earthbound Zero)
Why: Mother is an RPG, so if you're japanese is weak or non-existant, you might want to stay away from this one. However, there are English version ROMs of the North American NES prototype that was fully translated but cancelled at the last minute because of the rising intrist in the SNES. So why check it out? Because its a beautifully rich game with a distinct style and one of the best soundtracks the Famicom ever cranked out.

Devil World
Why: Unreleased in North America simply because it features a blue devil and bibles, Devil World is another notible game by Nintendo master Shigeru Miyamoto. It's basically a Pac-Man clone, but spices things up by moving the screen around and having to force the player, a deformed dragon named Tamagon to move to avoid being crushed. Its defenetly worth playing.

Hi no Tori: Wagaou no Bouken
Why: This is an interesting game by Konami. The player cannot jump very high, but like Solomon's Key, you can create blocks to use as platforms. You can also turn enemies into blocks, but when you do the blocks quickly travel across the ground into a corner at which point they solitify. You have to chase them and catch them before they do in order to replenish your supply of blocks. It's very strange, but its a delight to play. I suggest looking into it.

Youkai Douchuuki
Why: A charming little platformer that provides the player with a sense of price knowing you can kick the crap out of anything that moves with an infininte supply of ping-pong balls. The game's most notible for its music but its still fun to play every now and then.

Akumajou Special: Boku Dracula Kun (Sometimes called Kid Dracula)
Why: What happens when you cross Rockman and Akumajou Dracula? This game, apparently. Unlike the dark and grim settings of the Akumajou series, here its fun and games, lighthearted and cute. The son of Dracula, Alucard, has been chibi-fied and now throws fireballs like Rockman fires his arm canon to bring down the widdle baddies that get in Alucard's way. You pick up new abilities as the game processes, furthering the likeness with the Rockman series. There are even sections of hair rippingly frustrating spike-pits!

City Connection
Why: I know there was an NES version (at least I'm pretty sure there is) but eh, its a Famicom classic anyway. You drive a 1985 Honda City acorss looping stages filled with cops, oil, spikes and satin-possessed cats. Your mission: cover every inch of each stage while remaining in one peice. Oil can spin out the other cars on the road, but it does nothing agaist sudden spikes and that damned evil evil cat. All you need to do is play this one once to realize how great it really is.

I say Satoshi, you have some great taste! ;D Mine are pratically all the same, but I would of added Doki Doki Panic and Kid Icarus. These games are just top notch! :)

satoshi_matrix

Well thanks  :D Both of those are disk system games, so they'd count in a top 10 disk system list, but not here in a Famicom list.

Thanks guys (and gals,) this is *exactly* what I was looking for.

Let's see some more lists get up here!  ;D

1. SD Hero Soukessen: Taose Aku no Gundan -- the power went out when I was at the final boss! Still haven't beaten it.
2. Recca -- never actually played it, lol, but it sounds amazing!
3. Hino Tori -- newly discovered on my part, and downright cool.
4. Akumajo Special -- a must have for a Castlevania fan.
5. Joy Mech Fight -- best hand-to-hand fighter...maybe the only?
6. Downtown Nekketsu Koushinkyoku: Soreyuke Dai Undoukai -- too fun to beat up your friends (up to 4 players).
7. Super Mario World (pirate original) -- don't expect the real thing.
8. King Kong 2: Ikari no Megaton Punch -- a challenge...you'll need to map the worlds because of all the warping you'll do!
9. Soap Panic (unlicensed) -- like Tetris, closer to being Puyo Puyo, but awesome, plus nudity!
10. Gekitotsu!! Yonku Battle -- awesome, but too easy and short. :(

Honorable mentions: Punch-Out!! Special (gold)...the first release of Punch-Out!! (before MTPO) with grammatical mistakes, some different music, and no Dream Bout -- a must only for a true PO fan. Pandmar...an SMB hack, and the best I've seen so far...puts nice twists on a tired game.

I don't own the original version *those go for $200+* but I do own a pirate of Summer Carnival '92.

But let it be known:
Recca is I-M-P-O-S-S-I-B-L-E.

Take all the frustration of games like Gradius or Ghost n' Goblins, the gameplay of Ikaruga (well minus the polarity thing) the speed of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and the graphics of Thunder Force and this is what you get.

The game is so quick the only way to keep up is to go insane.

It is not impossible, I have it, and still not beat it but every game you go further.

It needs strategy of weapon use, charge beam and so... and graphics are not like ThunderForce man! XD but Recca is much more fun to play!, yes!

And much more faster than Sonic3!!! did you reached lev 3 when you go all the level back?! that's speed!!!

Nice pirate. :) That's only the second Recca pirate I've seen and only the third I've heard about. It'd be a neat to own a pirate of it, since the real thing costs so much. At least we know they're out there.
