Last night, I had my first taste of Magic Block, the other new unlicensed game I bought from Dave aka fcgamer. Definitely an interesting concept for a puzzle game, as it is a hybrid of sliding puzzles and Pipe Dream. It's a tough one, though, with very little time to think and act. (And limited continues!) Still, I was able to play further than the only sample video I could find for it on YouTube.
Can Nintendo Age Beat Every NES Game in 2015?

I just completed "Hikari Shinwa: Parutena no Kagami" on the FDS. Got the best ending! :) It seems like getting all the health/arrow upgrades and using save instead of continues really works. (Thanks P!) I got a final score of: 521900 (I beat you fredJ ;D now get playing!)

I was a little scared of the final level as I'd heard that there was no auto scroll, no going under the brick wall and you have to hold the A button to fly. It was no worries though, I didn't even take damage until I got to Medusa.

Jedi Master Baiter

I've been on an Itadaki Street craze lately.

Though the automated dice-rolling really throws me off. Literally.

I begun playing Metroid on the FDS today. I finished Brinstar and used up+A on controller 2 to save the game, later when I was going to continue my file had no progress stored at all. I created a new game in slot 2 and quickly did all of Brinstar again, this time the save worked. Must be something with the disk I guess. Anyway, I completed Kraid's hideout as well. Tomorrow awaits Norfair.

Thank you for confirming that! Yeah the last stage is a bit harder than it is in the NES version and you can't cheat against Medusa by staying in her blind spot and keep shooting, but it's probably still the easiest level in the game ironically enough.

Issun

No problems mate. :)

I was going to continue with Metroid FDS today. When I loaded the game I was back in Brinstar (should've been in Kraid's hideout), but I had all my equipment intact at least. I continued to Norfair but as I entered the cavern suddenly my energy was only 07, and all my equipment gone. I reloaded the game and I was back in Brinstar without any equipment at all, though the game registered that the Maru Mari was collected as it wasn't in its place. Seems my disk is corrupted so I went a head and bought another copy from eBay, hopefully it'll work better. Seems to be a pretty common problem with Metroid disks, as far as I can tell.

I took out the old NES and started Metroid there.

My advice: If you have a smartphone, use it to take a picture of your password instead of trying to write it down. Metroid passwords are the worst!

Over the weekend I beat Boku Dracula-kun, which was a beautiful journey for a Castlevania fan like me, and also played through Bomberman for the first time. I love how that game lets you keep your bomb/explosion upgrades when you die but takes away your better upgrades - it keeps the challenge steady but not unsurmountable. I was sort of bamboozled that I had almost 3 million points by the end of the game ... however, after researching the game's hidden bonus items, I suspect some people have recorded some insane high scores.

I'm now working on Clash at Demonhead for NES.

Wow, I was surprised to see you mentioned me all of a sudden.
But it would take a long time to save and continue each time at least for me.
I think it is unfair to call Kid Icarus a simple game, as some seem to do... It takes time to get used to all the jumping (especially on ice !! ) and find your way around the castles for people who haven't played the NES version as kids. It probably isn't too hard after one has played it for 100 hours or so.
Some suggest to buy several feathers, but then you'd need money, and have to stand and kill enemies for a long time...

Speaking of difficult passwords, the worst I've had so far is Japanese version of Guardian Legend (http://japanspel.blogspot.com/2013/12/famicom-friday-guardian-legend-guardic.html ), but a few days ago I has almost as bad password with Captain Ed.  I came here to tell about my last played game, Captain Ed, probably an unknown famicom game to most. http://japanspel.blogspot.com/2014/04/captain-ed-famicom.html

I have a complete Japanese guidebook for bomberman, by the way...  (1986) Sometimes those books have info that isn't on the internet, but I can't really tell.
Selling  Japanese games in Sweden since 2011 (as "japanspel").

Wow, I'd love to see a guidebook for Bomberman. In general I just love Famicom guidebooks, even though I'm not fluent in Japanese.

The worst password screen for me so far has been in Getsu Fuuma Den, where it's all stylized hiragana. Even with my phone camera it would still sometimes take several tries to get it right.

I could say I learned hiragana playing Harikiri Stadium from start to finish.
Two lines of hiragana. Pen and paper.
Now Playing: Dragon Ball Fusions, Yggdra Union

Yeah who calls it an easy game? I played it as a kid a lot and still have trouble finding my way in the fortresses. I never owned it for NES though, only borrowed it. Yeah the game is the hardest early on when you don't have much strength, weapons, feathers or wine of life. But if you grind a bit early on (might be hard since it's easy to die), it gets easier later in the fortresses. When you come to the overwolrd it's easy to get more hearts and experience points.

Played more Dr. Mario with my lady.  She has got so good she usually kicks my butt but I managed to trounce her this time round.  We do first to three games as a rule, I own 3-1 but have lost 3-0 too many times now...

Dr. Mario is such a great 2P game. Actually I've had fun with almost every competitive puzzler that I've played. I gotta track down a Tengen Tetris...

Yes, you do Zycrow. Tengen Tetris  is pretty awesome. It's actually pretty easy to find on Famicom pirate multis, but I totally think it's worth the money to get a legit NES version.

I got in my new CIB AV Fami today, so I had to break it and the controllers in with a mini-marathon. I played some Cross Fire, Flying Hero, and Star Wars (Namcot).
