the japanese version is 100% identical to the USA release except it's in a sfc case and label.  In both the japanese and US release of the game you can choose english or japanese.  However when you pick japanese you still get english, you just have japanese subtitles to the english text.  And this IS one of my personal favourite games of all time.  It doesn't require any reading to figure out what to do.  There's hardly any text in the game.  Anyone who owns a snes or sfc.....heck anyone who truly appreciates video games MUST get super metroid.  I've been playing it since its original release and it still blows me away.  And I'll happily help anyone out with questions regarding a game as amazing as super metroid.  Seriously it's one of my top 5 favourite video games of all time.

On a side note, you'd be surprised how many japanese versions of games contain a lot of english.  The japanese version of zelda link to the past all the credits are still in english...even though it's all japanese names.  Super metroid has to be the worst, japanese subtitles to english writing.....when the game comes from japan.....a bit strange I found.

That's how Natsume did NINJA WARRIORS AGAIN for Taito.  English text with JPN subs.  I remember when I first ordered (overnight delivery at that) NWA from Japan Video Games I got all excited.  I thought that Japan was going to start making all their games like that.  ***Stupid me.   :D  Thanks for the info drop on Super Metroid though.  Looks like I'm going to pick that one up after all, especially since I know it's not going to be something I need to read.  I didn't realize that FINAL FIGHT TOUGH was going to have in-between stages story, so I'm wondering just what the hell is going on in that game, as I just got that one in yesterday.  Going to have to hit up YouTube and see if anyone has Final Fight 3 up for viewing to see what I missed.  Glad I passed on Final Fight 2 though, outside of the character of Maki... that game didn't look too hot.

I'm a Metroid fan, so it surprises even me that I've never played *Super Metroid*

...that's going to change soon.

Thanks again! ^__^

all else is just rehashes and insanity passing
itself off as "gaming."

I'm a pretty big Metroid fan, and yes, Super Metroid is THE BEST Metroid game of all time.

I know a lot of pc engine shooters offer tate mode. However, tate mode is often hidden and only unlockable with a code.

Interesting; is there a list of these games?

Is the NES Zapper compatible with the Famicom system?

UglyJoe

Nope.

You can make it work with some modifications to your Famicom, though.

BTW danimoth asked about connecting a NES Zapper to the original Famicom system, which doesn't have NES-style controller plugs like the AV Famicom (this makes everything considerably harder).

The problem lies in the physical connection from the Zapper to the system. Cutting off the plug from a Zapper and installing a DB-15 plug is the most logical idea. Thing is, industry standard DB-15 plugs aren't long enough to reach the pins of the unusually deep Famicom's EXT socket. The only cable that will work is the Neo Geo controller extension cable. If you can get this then you're good to go. If not, you'd have to install a NES plug inside your Famicom, or hard-wire the gun to it, just like the controllers are.

UglyJoe

Yes.  His point was that the FC's db15 expansion port is *not* standard.  The pin arrangement is the same, but it is significantly deeper than standard ports.  You need to harvest a connector from either an FC controller or from a Neo*Geo controller extension cord.
