Happy Holidays, Famicom Gamers!

Yes, it’s that time of year! Time to bring out Santa-kun.

A big thanks to all of you for a great year of Famicom gaming and Famicom talk. Things have been a bit slower for those of us maintaining the website. We don’t seem to have as much time to update the site, but, if you keep your mice clicking, you’ll see some new stuff on the site — we just don’t always mention it here.

This time around, we’ve got a new article from our friend Martin in Estonia. Martin tells us about Famicom gaming and collecting in the former Soviet Union. There also are a bunch of new Famicom pirates on the Pirated page.

More to come in 2008! And…welcome to the new forum members!

Mortal Kombat II!

Switchstance has been kind enough to grace us with another one of his great game reviews. This time he tells us about Mortal Kombat II, in what really is an entertaining review. Otherwise, all you’ll find updated are the games lists and this addition to the Workshop page: a Famicom test cart.

Mega update!

It’s been over a month since the last update, so this time we’ve got quite a bit for you to check out. On the Accessories page, we’ve added Nintendo’s Video Shooting Series Light Gun and Square’s 3D Sunglasses. On the Protos page, you can see the Super Lode Runner proto. Two new ads have been added to the Advertisements page. Scans of the FamicomStation’s controller and a FamicomStation cart have been added to the FamicomBox page. And that’s not all…

FamicomJL has done three new reviews of some Famicom-exclusive games. Read his reviews: Navy Blue, The Goonies, and Pizza Pop! If you’re into Battleship, you might find Navy Blue modestly entertaining. The Holy Grails Shrine intro page has been updated to show how one would go about participating in one of the Nintendo tournaments, and you can also see at how high a price one Holy Grail auction ended. And something many of you forum members may have already seen, the Video Station was added to the Workshop page.

Check out forum member Switchstance’s website, now linked from our Links page. His link button is Nesfami in Argentina! It’s a very cool site. Oh, and the Recommended Sellers page now has AndyArcade on it! Keep him selling by buying his stuff.

Konami Q Famicom Adaptor!

It’s a curious little thing: the Konami Q Famicom Adaptor. You hook it into your Famicom like an standard converter, only instead of playing NES games, like you’d expect with Famicom converters, it plays special Famicom carts developed by Konami and NHK. Check it out.

Other updates to the site include the curious FDS box featherpluck found a long time ago. Speaking of featherpluck, where has he gone? You can also see the Dr. Chaos proto that sold on Yahoo! Japan last week for $100 and a bunch of new ads. There are more ads to come, but a lack of familiarity with some of the titles is keeping us from identifying them.

One year of Famicom World!

Yep…that’s right. Famicom World has been around for a full year. But for those of us who’ve been working on the site during the last year, it certainly seems longer. We’ve formed a great community with a bunch of awesome, knowledgeable members. Thanks to everyone who’s helped this project continue!

Because we’ve all been busy (vacationing or otherwise), we don’t have much of an update today. You can check out new ads on the Plugs page. We’ve got about forty more to put up, but they need to be identified first. You can also read a brief piece about Golden Mario, not a game, but a tiny Mario statue that’s pretty cool. And if you thought Super Mario Bros. was the only game with “lost levels” think again. Bubble Bobble has lost levels, too — sort of.

Cautiously selecting Dramatic Mode!

We finally got around to putting up more screenshots, thanks to FamicomFreak’s help. It’s tough putting together pages for each game on the games lists, which is what has to happen for each set of screenshots. So, go to the carts list and check out L and M, the two letters which were just added. We’ve also put together a quick piece about Bandai’s “Dramatic Mode” — if you have any info on what that mode does, let us know. Sounds funny, nuh?

We put up kite’s review of Kid Icarus, and will put up his latest review sometime soon. Also take a good look at FamicomJL’s review of Puyo Puyo.

World Championships Challenge!

FW, NintendoAGE and RetroZone are co-sponsoring what we’re calling the World Championships Challenge. For those who might not know, RetroZone has begun selling the first ever NWC reproduction carts. Because of this, any gamer is now able to play the NWC at home on their NES. Click over to the World Championships Challenge page, the FW forum or the NintendoAGE forum to find out more about the challenge. We hope you get your hands on an NWC repro cart and submit your high scores!

More FW updates to come this weekend. In the meantime, check out the forum.

Lots of screenshots!

We’ve begun getting screenshots for every Famicom game, with the help of forum member FamicomFreak and others. FamicomFreak has done the letter “K” on the Famicom carts list so far and has more screenshots on the way. Some games outside of the “K” category have some info and screens as well. Look for green buttons on the games lists. You’ll see some really cool characters in some of the more obscure screenshots.

We’ve also got a new game review from satoshi about Famicom Wars. That’s about it, other than minor updates here and there to existing pages.

Hmm…

So, we felt like we needed to let you know here that not much has been going on lately. It seems the academic year is ending for lots of gamers and collectors right now. But! We do have one new review on the site, thanks to satoshi matrix. It’s the Yobo.

Oh, and if you didn’t know: The only big news about the Famicom out of Japan is a brand new Famicom game called Mr. Splash! — head over to the forum to read about it. Looks like it could be fun. Wonder if one will hit YHJ anytime soon.

Sharp NES controller!

NES fans need to check out the photo we’ve got of the FamicomStation’s controller on the FamicomBox page. It’s really awesome. We’ve also got a review of the Handy FamiEight up, thanks to satoshi_matrix of the forum. Some other things include about four new pirates on the Pirated page.

Check out the forum. And welcome to all the new members!
