I didn't know those were rare. Thanks

are  Wai Wai World and Sweet home considered rare?

Most Famicom games were made in large numbers and aren't rare. So all those games mentioned above aren't rare. Some of those, like Sweet Home, are wanted by a lot of gamers, so that makes the price go up, even though it they aren't rare. There are other threads here about rare games, like grails, special releases and gold carts, etc.

I think the gold version of punch out is pretty rare

http://cgi.ebay.com/PUNCH-OUT-GOLD-FAMICOM-NOT-FOR-SALE_W0QQitemZ230114196213QQihZ013QQcategoryZ62053QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

There is another one on ebay that the seller wants even more money than this one

Yeah, but not hella rare. 10,000 were made and they usually don't sell CIB in Japan for more than $200.

That gold punch out is tempting but I'm having some money problems right now....oh man I wish I had 200 extra bucks...

For one on eBay, that's a good price. I sold a shitty one for $300+. That one's been listed for a while. I have an extra one CIB, as well.

Haha. You know, the first time I listed my gold PO, it didn't sell, with a start bid of like $200. I relisted it with a $100 start bid and told FamicomJL that I'd give it to him if it didn't sell. Well, it sold, for $360 shipped, I think. But $20. Can't do that. :P I need to make my money back. Need at least $200.

I'm pretty new to this but is a game really worth 200 bucks?  That seems very pricey for such dated technology.  I take it the price is because its a highly sought after collectable
Title: Re: Rarest and most valuable Famicom games?
Post by: JC on May 31, 2007, 01:18:39 pm
That's what it's all about, whether or not people want it and how many are available to get. So yeah, some games are worth that much and more. Now, if you're talking about it from the other perspective, that it's just a hunk of plastic with old technology and a printed label, the worth these days would be pennies.

But isn't Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! for NES more complete than the Famicom Version? Isn't the last person you face Super Macho Man? I picked up MTPO for $9 and I thought even that was pricy.

Considering that Stadium Events (which fetches well over a hundred dollars) & World Class Track Meet (which barely makes five) are identical, lest the title screen; it probably doesn't make a difference.

I think the famicom version had different characters in it like Piston Hurricane, Kid Quick, and Pizza Pasta

I just wanted to know some games that are considered rare.

there are at least 52 famicom/famicom disk games "rare" and many of these are "not for sale" games. Gold punch out is one of them.

For Gold Punch out, on Yahoo auction normal price is about 15.000 / 25.000 Y (120 / 200 $)

the most rare games are the 12 golden cartridge games.
Title: Re: Rarest and most valuable Famicom games?
Post by: kite200 on June 01, 2007, 06:56:26 pm
the only games i think are rare are games that arent for sale, and maybe the knitting games.
Title: Re: Rarest and most valuable Famicom games?
Post by: JC on June 01, 2007, 07:12:17 pm
Saying "52" sounds like someone has a list? Because I don't know of a list and don't know the number of carts/disk produced for most titles, I usually classify rare based on what they sell for on YHJ. I'd say anything over $200 is rare. I don't seem much sell for that price, but there are a few, including some unlicensed games.

Anyway, of the disk games, I'd agree that the knitting games and the gold disks are among the rarest, with All Night perhaps being the most rare. Maybe the Famimanga or whatever games, too.

Some of those sound legit -- I haven't heard of some. But, for instance, wouldn't the gold Golf Japan be more rare than the gold Golf US. I've seen that 5,000 of Golf Japan were made, while 10,000 of Golf US were made.

And I think Kidousenshi Z Gundam: Hot Scramble: Final Version was silver. Only 1,000 made and that's definitely more rare than Dunk Heroes. I'm pretty sure the Kinnikuman: Muscle Tag Match's (green and gold) are more rare than some of the games on the carts list, as well. And what about Rock Man 4 gold, which I don't know much about but is said to exist in extremely low numbers, like 4.

"Friggen bike factory game" is Tailor-Made, but it ain't a game, so I don't think it counts.

Translate this please, particularly the first part with the 100, which is for Punch-Out and would be more rare than most on the list.

A bit hard to find game is the cartridge version of Akumajou Dracula(CIB) in good condition. When you find, is I got my own after a pretty long wait searching on a little used game shop near Tokyo. I think its rare because this has re-released in fairly limited numbers (I don't know how many have been made).

about circulation of rare games not in sale, I read and translate all informations from 7/8 japanese site very accurate.

About charumera zelda I know some people in Japan that search this game, someone have see it for about 1000 $ in a shp (i don't know if mandarake, trader or super potato), I don't know the circulastions but is most rare than all night nippon. I estimate 500~2000 made (but is my supposition).

The game is the same game of zelda famicom disk, but sticker is different. I suppose there are difference also in cover (manual). I never see a front image. I hope this game is complete with manual and not disk only like clu clu land.

I'm interested in this game. If I see it, I buy immediately.

The lists are looking good. I'm interesting in learning a lot more about some of those games. It seems some of them were just special versions of a retail game. If you finish the lists, I'd love to have a copy.

I would like to add the info to the lists on FW, FamicomFreak. I know FW's games lists are missing some of the games on Gemant's lists.

It'd be nice to know which of the games are just cart variations (special color, label, etc.) and which have gameplay variations.

I can't believe somebody wanna buy this kind of thing. Isn't just about money. is about a crappy game millions of times worst than a common one like Contra,  Akumajou or any classic good game. What you can do with Y400.00? You can do a good trip, you can study, or better(in some cases) buy a TONS of very good games.
That's because even living in Japan and doing a good pay job, I don't have any interest to buy too expensive games.
Talking about Famicom, the most expensive game that I bought was Akumajou Dracula cartridge version and Guevara, Y10.000 boths.

Probably is just to say: "I have". :o
Title: Re: Rarest and most valuable Famicom games?

You've got it right. I don't know why people collect things they're not going to play. I suppose I've done it from time to time, even a little with Famicom, but I always feel guilty after buying something expensive because I know I won't put it to use.

Nevertheless, it's fun to learn about the rare stuff that's out there. :)

Title: Re: Rarest and most valuable Famicom games?
Post by: JC on July 14, 2007, 09:34:20 am
It could be by a company...maybe that page manuel linked to says so. But the cart suggests it's either made by the same company who put out those carts/systems or it's by a kid who bought some of those carts and a system and made his own four screen game. Seems more likely, that if it really came from 1986, it's made by the company as a promotion to sell their unlicensed/pirated products.

Just came into this form as a result of searching for info on rare Famicom games (saw some stuff that was so rare today it didn't have a price in the store! eg. Rockman 4 GOLD).

Just curious what Japanese pages you guys are looking at for the state of the Famicom prices.

I am definitely curious if the prices on some of this stuff is changing (hopefully going up) as although I am not (yet) crazy enough to jump on a $5000 gold cart, some of the $100-ish games I wouldn't mind picking up, especially that gold Punch Out! cart.

Cheers!

I watch YHJ...but YHJ won't have some of the really rare stuff, like Rockman 4 gold. But it'll have almost everything at one point or another, if you're paying attention. I've never seen a game sell for more than $1,500, which was about the price of All Night Nippon, iirc. Not a Famicom game, but a Famicom prize, a CIB mint SMB Game & Watch can go for over $2,000. The rest of the stuff is $1,000 or less.

(Also, I've got a CIB gold Punch-Out!! if you're interested. One sold for $250 on YHJ about a week ago.)

I notice you're missing at least one item that fits with your sets. You don't have the white stationery set: HERE (http://www.famicomworld.com/Shrines/Holy_Grails_Stationery_Set.htm). Do you know:

1. How many gold Rockmans were made?
2. Where the white stationery set comes from? (I think the yellow set was the prize.)

about white stationary I never seen it before.

Rockman gold I think 8 copy

now I want dragonball z2 jump victory festival and kinnikuman gold :'(

I has heard gold Rockman only has a few copies made. Was the gold Rockman a prize in a competition?

I haven't seen Kinnikuman gold, but the green one is on Yahoo! auctions all the time.

You don't have to tell me how much you paid for it, but can you tell me how much you think you could sell it for? What's it's worth? I don't think I've seen a game with so few releases in an auction, so the price would be high, I imagine.

And I notice on the new item, the foldout mentions how the gold cart was won or given out. I'm always curious to know why special edition games were made, so if you can tell us, I'd appreciate it. I'd guess most of the special edition items are tournament prizes (gold disks, etc.), other competition prizes (gold Rockman) or promotional (that game with the soup or noodle label on it).

On the topic of rarity.  Has anyone ever seen another boxed SMW pirate? (the one I got from madman).  I believe I've seen another Somari box posted somewhere before, but don't recall seeing another one for SMW.

It will probably go around $80 (non-boxed is around $55)
I think I saw another one but I don't remember where it was. (not this forum)

Thanks for your response.  I don't have any plans to sell it anytime soon, so $ value isn't a big deal (and based on the thread madman had and what I paid for it, $80 is a fair estimate, but sometimes boxed games are worth many times what a loose one is [not that it can be compared to an official game]).   I mostly just wanted to know how scarce the box may be.  I know SMW is somewhat scarce on its own (and the box is certainly rarer than the cartridge).

If you look closely, the one above has odd artwork (Mario swapped for something else).  That's probably the reason he has both.

It's just a label variation (nothing change in the game).
Peach head is a bit rarer than Mario head but the price should not change because it's just the label.

No reason to think the price would change, but as far as collecting them goes, it's a reason to have two instead of one (since there is a label variation).  Some people care about that sort of thing, and that's all I was pointing out.

Oh, this famous Racketboy page.  I've seen it linked here at least 4 times. ::)

Most of the values on that page aren't very accurate, and I wish they would've linked to where they got their pricing information from.  It's not in the database here.  So I wonder if it's just that rare, or it's just some pirate someone thought was rare.

Title: Re: Rarest and most valuable Famicom games?
Post by: JC on January 12, 2010, 03:07:26 pm
I've been pretty unsure of how to categorize Spartan X2. I think it's rare, like Gimmick! or Hebereke or Snow Bros. Sometimes people think games are rare just because they sell for high prices; for example, Hitler no Fukkatsu isn't rare, but people are always wanting to buy it so the prices go up. The same is true of the Kunio titles.

I have translated this to the best of my ability. I have been studying Japanese casually for the past 10 years, but I am still not
"fluent" in it yet.  :-\

Here it is:
Top of Banner (area at the very top of the image)
"Winning Prizes (Punch-Out II) and gifts for all 10,000 names (in the tournament) "
(I imagined that the // after Punch-Out meant 2, or II)

Left Side, Row 1
"Prize for Ranks 1-100"

Right Side, Row 1
Prize Winner's Trophy award, for all participants.

Left Side, Row 2
"Prize for Ranks 101-5000"

Right Side, Row 2
"All Participants"
(I'm guessing that those who fall into this category can only win prizes in the manner described in the last two rows below...)

Left Side, Row 3
"Hole-in-One Prize"

Right Side, Row 3
"Lottery Drawing from 1,000 Names"
(I could have used "Entries" instead of "Names", but I'm sticking with the original Kanji and using "Names").

Left Side, Row 4
"Lucky Number Prize"

Right Side, Row 4
"For ranks ending in 1, 4, 9, or 2:
Lottery Drawing from 4,000 names
(The end of the first line in Japanese can be read to say "in the manner of", or "similar to", but
in this context, the last part is a phrase modifier which means that the second phrase will be done as
described in the first phrase.)

(Example: The first phrase literally translates to: "Ends of Ranks FOCUS 1, 4, 9, 2 PHRMOD NO manner using/because..."
or more intelligently: "For ranks ending in 1, 4, 9, or 2: (this step will be performed)".
This implies causality in the first phrase.
The Lottery Drawing from 4,000 names will only happen for those who have ranks which end in the numbers 1, 4, 9, or 2.

Hope this is illuminating!  :D

A question for the knowledgeable FDS collectors:
Are disk writer exclusive games more valuable if they are in the normal yellow case, or the very late blue case with the shutter? I've seen pictures of real Clu-Clu Land disks in both.
Also, are the Full color official labels worth more or less than the generic white labels that were given out when the store ran out of full color labels?

Sure found some old thread, but I don't mind.....

I don't think it matters if it is blue or yellow. I'd personally prefer to see yellow cards because blue cards had crappy games to begin with, but a collector might not care.
Also, the blue ones were not late releases, they were Fax games for contests, and there were only five of them.

I assume that a game with a real label is always worth more... I'd personally put a higher price tag, at least 1/3 higher, probably more. Ask yourself, which one would you rather have in your collection? There is your answer about price...
