Is it Safe to have your famicom resting on your disk system all the time?
God I hope so! :P
Years ago, I used to do it and never had any problems. However, I don't know the long term effect...
The worst case scenario I guess would be that they run a little hotter when both are on. Otherwise I think we're safe... I mean that thermonuclear explosion that happened to that one guy was a total coincidence.
Is there a long term effect?
Am I better off not leaving the famicom on the Disk system at all?
Yes, it's completely safe and there are no long term effects. It's not like putting a TV set over a microwave oven over a refrigerator.
The FC and FDS are low power devices and won't interfere with each other, and the FDS works in really short bursts. Besides, they were designed to match that way.
Yeah, if they weren't, Hudson would have to recall that little frame they have to keep them together.
I figured it wouldn't interfere with power but I was thinking along the lines of leaving the famicom on the disk system and if that would somehow weaken the structure of the disk system... get what I mean?
Ah yeah. It's ABS plastic, tough stuff, you've got nothing to worry about. You could probably stand on it for a decade and it'd be fine.
One strange thing I've run into with putting my Famicom on my FDS for a whille is when I try to lift it up off of the FDS, it sticks to the FDS for a little bit before coming off. Then there's a bit of a sticky substance where the pads were sitting...
The rubber feet have disintegrated with time. If you were to rub them with your fingers you'll see that a substance resembling black pepper comes out. You could apply a rubber rejuvenating solution, replace the rubber pads altogether or just live with it (that's the option I take).
well what if I were to put something on top of the disk system to prevent the sticky "mess" nintendodork refferred to, such as maybe an index card on top of it
That takes away from the appearance though. It's clear, and you can't see it unless you are hovering right over the Disk System w.o/ the Famicom. So it's not that big of a deal to me.
So I am probably better off just leaving it to the side of the disk system huh
It won't hurt your FDS in any way, and it looks better with Famicom///FDS. Plus it takes up more room when they're side to side
Well yeah but what about the sticky mess you mentioned...
It's not a "mess" so to speak...I'll take a pic and show you..

Worry less and play more! The worst case scenario is that you'll have to get a little soap and water and clean it up.
There was a sticky mess on my fds after beating smb2j. It came from me however, lol. ;)
Luckily my imagination's broken, so it doesn't gross me out. Otherwise.... eeewwww!!!!!
lawl, that was uncalled for. Sorry I haven't posted that pic yet. I've been kind of lazy since I just got my toe operated on today :P
