Edited my first post..and Rob64, SMG IS NOT a game from 1970-1999
EDIT* I never knew you could rent consoles..I only thought it was games...why would they do that?
for whatever reason, the most memorable game from your childhood... SMB1/LoZ
The hardest game you beat... not sure, but SMB2j isn't the hardest (Maybe Ghosts 'N Goblins)

The game you didn't own but played at a friend's house the most... Empire Strikes Back/ Smart Ball (SNES)
I had to cheat to beat this game... Ninja Gaiden (never gone out of my way to try beating it without cheating).
When I found this glitch out I almost wet myself... There are no glitches that are that amazing, but as a kid I came up with tons of my own game genie codes for SMB1 alone (one of them made mario look just like he was ice skating [slide along on one foot, then alternate, then back, etc.), but the game would play normally otherwise--stuff like that was very cool to discover as a kid).
Best Game or system trade I ever made with a friend... I bought a rare Arabian Nights Magic card for $35, traded it to a friend for more than $35 worth of cards + a working Sega Genesis system with games. He went on to trade the card I traded him to a mutual friend, and I ended up buying the card from that friend for $15, so essentially I got over $35 worth of cards and a Genesis with games for $15.
Worst Game or system trade I ever made with a friend... Dunno what I got, but considering what it is worth now, I'd have to assume what I gave my Duck Tales 2 for was a bad one for me.
I rented this game over and over from the video store... I didn't do much game renting.
I had so many late fees for this game from the Video Store... "/\"
Greatest self imposed challenge you completed for a game... I don't really make challenges for myself, though am committed to seeing/completing 100% of a game (this may mean going through them numerous times).
What was I thinking when I bought this game.... Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (NES)
Game you were a show-off playing in front of your friends... SMB1/MK II
The best game you haven't played since you were a kid... Duck Tales II...since I traded it away so long ago, lol. I still need to get one back for my collection. I generally come back to the "best" games I played as a kid as far as NES stuff goes, but with some thought a Win '95 PC game of some sort would probably be best suited to take this slot.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't see the year restrictions that weren't there, oh well then my game to show off would probably be Super Mario Bros. 3 or Pitfall especially the part where I have maps of all the boards with every detail.
Far enough back for you nintendodork?
(don't take my "anger" seriously, just making a john cleese reference out of a monty python bit, well done don't you think?)

I had so many late fees for this game from the Video Store...nothing
Greatest self imposed challenge you completed for a game...Getting through 100 rounds of Clay Shooting on Duck Hunt
What was I thinking when I bought this game....TMNT 2: Battle Nexus; resold it, ruined my good-game-buying streak... & I bought it only for the Arcade Mode, which in itself was a dissapointment
best kept retro game secret... wasn't really a secret: in Cruis'n USA on the Iowa stage (or was it Indiana?) if you do it right, you can knock out the separators on the toll booth. I only did it once so I couldn't convince anybody.
Oh yeah, on the Chicago stage, if you stop right before the finish line & watch the other racers finish, you'll see them do all sorts of weird ass things like stop & crash into each other. I even saw something in the air - a helicopter?
Likewise in Washington DC, stop before the finish line & some cars will drive in circles
Arcade Machine you put the most quarters in: Real Ghostbusters, Final Fight, or Star Wars Arcade
When a buddy came over we played this game: typically Mario 3, Super Mario World, or Goldeneye
I had to cheat to beat this game: Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures

I had so many late fees for this game from the Video Store: see above
Greatest self imposed challenge you completed for a game: Doom, episode 1, without dying, "Hurt Me Plenty" mode
What was I thinking when I bought this game: Awesome Possum for the Genesis
best kept retro game secret: The only time I ever finished Half-Life was on PS2, I never beat the PC version
Game you were a show-off playing in front of your friends: Goldeneye or House of the Dead 2
for whatever reason, the most memorable game from your childhood: EARTHBOUND!
The game you didn't own but played at a friend's house the most: the first South Park N64 game
Worst Game or system trade I ever made with a friend: I never traded games or systems. Still don't.
The best game you haven't played since you were a kid: Tough call, as I retro-game pretty frequently. Maybe Wolfenstein 3D.
Using games from 70's -1999]
In your Opinion..
The hardest game you beat... For me this is Shinobi on hard, on PS2 (I think it's 1999, if not it's still hardest).
Arcade Machine you put the most quarters in.. CarnEvil (arcade shooter)
When a buddy came over we played this game ...Super Mario Brothers 3, same here - we spent ages getting full bars of the powerups, I had 40-50 P wings on one save!
I had to cheat to beat this game... Um, I can't think of one.
When I found this glitch out I almost wet myself....I found a funny glitch in SMB2USA that made me invincible permanently and able to move around like a cursor - never got to reproduce it though :(
Best Game or system trade I ever made with a friend...Hmm I think maybe The Terminator arcade game, only ever traded like 2 games.
I rented this game over and over from the video store...Only game I ever really rented was streets of rage 3..
I had so many late fees for this game from the Video Store... meh
Greatest self imposed challenge you completed for a game...Beating street fighter 2 turbo on hardest with no rounds lost so you get the "you mastered Ken" message - either that or shinobi! OR, getting grand master rank on every level of every Tenchu game, yeah that's it in terms of hours I think.
Or, maybe getting 100% on GT2 when there was a bug to stop you getting 100% - so I must be one of only few to do that, I still don't really know how I did it :)
What was I thinking when I bought this game....Astro Boy PS2
best kept retro game secret- That famicom emulation on wii is better than and surpasses the original hardware. This is absolutely true.

The hardest game you beat... For me this is Shinobi on hard, on PS2 (I think it's 1999, if not it's still hardest).
The PS2 wasn't released until 2001
for whatever reason, the most memorable game from your childhood?
~RASTAN SAGA. The year was 1988 (for me) and it was the one of the highlights
of visiting my grandmother in Del Rio Texas on the border at the Mr. Gattis Pizzaria
off Avenue F [now called "Veteran's Blvd.]. The conversion arcade cabinet was in the
back next to APB, Sky Shark, Rygar, and some Atari game called *Arabian*
I was just thrilled to play such a game, and it was the bonus ontop of eating some
great tasting pizza, and just being an 9/10 year old. I never got passed stage 2, castle
back then, but it didn't stop me from wasting probably $15.00 on the game between 1988
through 1991. ***Strange part in this story is that in 2004 I would reunite with the exact same
conversion cab I had scribbled my initials into the side on in 1990, when I purchased the
RASTAN arcade game off an eBAY seller in Dallas Texas. It now sits in my personal arcade
room, and I was amazed when I realized it was the exact same cab from my youth.
The hardest game you beat?
~Beating the insanity of RED's PC Engine Duo (Turbo Duo) shooter game
*Gate of Thunder* on the "Devil" difficulty mode ONCE... and only ONCE! I still
think it was a fluke, but I did manage it that one time in 1999.
Arcade Machine you put the most quarters in?
~This award goes to FINAL FIGHT. Back in the day at Diamond J's Arcade
you got 30tokens for $5.00, well... in trying to beat the game back in 1990, I
spent about $40.00 easily (over the course of 2 months), I remember that
"Abigail" in the New York City stage towards the end on your way to Belger
was the part most of those continues got used, especially when playing in
the 1Player mode with Cody.
When a buddy came over we played these games.
~CONTRA, Ninja Ryukenden 1 & 2 (Gaiden), Street Fighter 2,
Macross 2036, Jackal.
The game you didn't own but played at a friend's house the most?
~Ray Xanber III for PC ENGINE Super CD-ROM. *Man I loved that game!
I had to cheat to beat this game!
~IKARI (better known as Ikari Warriors) from stage 1 to the final mission
using that nutty A, B, B, A, infinite continue code on Famicom/NES. The
damn game was slow/buggy compared to the Arcade version, but I was
hell bent on beating it. *Especially after I got halfway through the game
only to get stuck in a part of the screen and had to reset the game... I played
that cart for what seemed like 4 hours... but I beat it!
When I found this glitch out I almost wet myself.
~I don't know about wetting myself, but I found the hobo dude on the streets of
Burning Fight for Neo:Geo MVS hilarious when while rifling through your pockets
for yen, it appears he drops to his knees to perform fellatio on you. You had to
stand at just a certain point after punching the guy once (Stage 1), and the guy
would go down on you. I laughed my ass off and had to show everyone that.
Best Game or system trade I ever made with a friend.
~I traded my ELEVATOR ACTION Nes game for Trojan. I got the better deal in
the end.
Worst Game or system trade I ever made with a friend.
~Getting rid of my Snoopy & The Red Baron Atari 2600 game in exchange for
Skate Boardin' by Absolute.
I rented this game over and over from the video store...
~Rushing Beat (SFC Import of Rival Turf)
I had so many late fees for this game from the Video Store..
~Never returned any games late.
Greatest self imposed challenge you completed for a game...
~Getting all the stars in Super Mario 64
What was I thinking when I bought this game?
~Shiten Myo for Mega Drive... game is absolute shit. In fact anyone's
turds in the toilet not only is better "graphics" but is easily a work of
art compared to that horrid, horrid, game! >:(
Game you were a show-off playing in front of your friends.
~MACROSS: Scrambled Valkyrie for Super Famicom. ***There
was a time I could 1cc the game on the hardest difficulty without
taking a single hit anywhere in the game.
The best game you haven't played since you were a kid....
~With emulation (M.A.M.E.) this doesn't apply anymore. Basically if it's out there,
chances are I've played it again.
Best kept retro game secret-
~Don't know if you'd call it a secret, but I didn't exactly run out and tell everyone in
the early days of the Internet about Psychic Killer TAROMARU for the JPN SEGA
Saturn. I know it doesn't have squat to do with the Kujaku Oh series (I figued at the
time it was a sequel to "Mystic Defender") but it's probably still the best the S.S. has
to offer and one of the coolest games of all time.
Biggest Video Game Dissapointments?
~Getting pumped up about Taito's Arcade game "NINJA WARRIORS" coming out for
the SEGA CD, and saving up dough to purchase one, and then the game didn't get
the U.S. release! Yeah, I could've imported a Mega Key Cart to work with an import
Mega CD... but that wasn't the point.
The fact that Taito's 1986 Run 'N Gun (RGS) shooter game L.S.A. SQUAD never
got a home VCS release for ANY console be it 8-BIT or 16-BIT, during the era it
would've made sense to be put on.
The fact Namco's STEEL GUNNER lightgun arcade game didn't get released to ANY
home VCS, though Project Horned Owl for the Playstation, while unrelated was
kind of like Steel Gunner in many ways.
Powering up FINAL FIGHT for Super Nintendo for the first time and learning that it was
no longer a 2 player game, it was missing the Industrial Zone stage with Rolento, and
had the two sluts Poison & Roxy replaced with Sid & Billy! WTF?
