If you could have any game remade, what would it be? Under the following limitations;
-The original game must have been released before 2000
-It cannot have a remake already
-It must be a commercial game (no C+ crap)
-Unmodified re-releases (like NES Classics/Famicom Mini, Virtual Console, or compilations) don't count as remakes.
List new featues the game would have as well.
I'd do either F-Zero or Super Smash Bros.
Adventure for the Atarti 2600

Mother for the DS. 'Nuff said.
I'd love to see a Strider remake. Particularly one like the NES version -- more Metroidvania-esque.

Sorry. :(
That's a port, not a remake.
The Pokemon GSC generation.
In M1+2, there were changes in M1 not present in the original. Can't post a link right now because I'm using my Wii. Look on Starmen.net for a guide.
Famicom Tantei Club Part 1... I REALLY want to play this game in english or something!!! :-[
I believe there's a fan translation. I could be wrong, though.
Yeah there is but only for the second game Part 2. :-\
Hm. Learn either Japanese, or NES HAXX0R powerz.

Well, there is a hack of FireRed to make it appear like Gold. It's called ShinyGold. ShinyGold is perhaps one of the best hacks of all; it uses many many handdrawn sprites, all the jhoto pokemon locations you remember, all the text, everything. The only things that haven't been hacked into it are day/night (since Fire Red didn't have this either) and the Pokegear. Everything else, and I mean EVERYTHING else is there though. Best GBA rom hack ever.
Mine? Megaman Powered Up 2 for the PSP. Megaman Powered Up 1 is an amazing, astounding shining jewel and an example to all how a remake of an old game should be done. I was sooooooooooooooooooo excited for the sequel I knew was just around the corner.......that never came out.
Megaman 2 is much better than Megaman 1, so it would stand to reason that a remake of 2 would be much better than the remake of 1. The poor PSP. Even with killer titles like this, its still always second to the DS. Although I hate the idea of it, Capcom should have at least switched over to the DS. A DS Megaman Powered Up 2 would be great, but I still wish there were more Rockman remakes of the PSP becides 1 and X1.
Getsufuu Maaden. Great atmosphere and music that could benefit greatly from an upgrade.

Swords and Serpents would be a great game as is with the addition of being able to save (without passwords) and an automatic journal log of the wall clues for the final floor.
Ocarina of time of course with new graphics ;D

OOT remake? Blah! OOT needs a remake about as much as FFVII does. In other words, it
doesn't. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of remakes, but I feel they should be done sparingly and only in certain situations.
The same game with beefed up graphics makes for a poor remake in my book. I feel remakes should be made only when the creation of such would result in a huge leap in gameplay, not unnecessarily graphics. Sure its nice if a game looks better, but the graphics are always the secondary element I want in a good remake. The reason why OOT doesn't need a remake is because it's flawless to begin with; adding to it would be foolish and would ultimately make the game too complex for its own good, as the game is already heaping with gameplay features. The same goes for FFVII or Halo or whatever else falls into the top tier category.
To illustrate my point, lets look at examples of remakes.
a good remake:
Metroid (FDS/NES) -> Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA)
Zero Mission is Metroid with a facelift, but it also added many new locations, weapons, bosses, even gameplay mechanics. This is a remake done right.
a bad remake:
OOT remake with better graphics
FFVII remake with better graphics
Halo remake with better graphics, etc
Basically, what I'm saying is that games shouldn't be remade simply for the fact of remaking them. Although it could be aruged that my suggestion of Rockman Rockman 2 doesn't need to happen because Rockman 2 is so complete already, I again would say that the reason I want it is because of how much gameplay they could potentially add to it.
Anyway, sorry for my rant.
Cheers.
Mega Man 2 is perfect as is, and so is Megaman 5 (perhaps the best Mega Man game, though I grew up with 2, so I am biased towards it). However, I wonder what would happen if both of those games were combined, and you could fight the 16 bosses in any order (having twice the items/weapons) before being able to go to an extended Dr. Wily section with new levels aimed at making use of the expanded arsenal/items. Could be interesting, but I know it will never happen :P
The comedian Gallagher quipped "Why do they remake good movies? They should be remaking the bad ones!". I think games should be the same way. There are plenty of older games that were way too ambitious for their time. The concepts are great, but the hardware was lacking (Metroid is a classic example of this). These are the sorts of games I wanna see remakes of.

Then you won't like the "NEW GAMEPLAY CONTROL" games they're releasing for the Wii...
They're GCN games...with Wii controls...the good news is, they're only like $30...which is nice for a game that's already made.
I'm surprised no one has said this yet...
SMB...in...first person...
Instead of those crappy videos people put on Youtube, let's see Nintendo do it! :D
RASTAN: Revenge of the Barbarian!
I'd want a high resolution 2.5D side scrolling/platforming
hack 'n slash nightmare of a game, with Zuntata coming
back to redo "Aggressive World" and "Reincarnation" both
from the original game soundtrack.
The game would be bloody, insane, and be all of what the
original was + equal parts Hokuto No Ken, BERSERK, and
Yoma: Curse of the Dead Japanimation/Animes, with kick
ass Ninja Ryukenden (Gaiden) cut scenes between stages,
and make the entire Golden Axe series + Magic Sword weep like
a man who just got gang raped in prison on his first night in the
cell block. With 4 possible endings (2) good, (2) bad... and multiple
paths for replay value. + you'd be able to unlock the first original
three arcade games of the series.
It would be all kinds of awesome. But the game only lives on in
my mind, as Taito has abandoned that franchise/I.P. apparently,
along with others that deserves a comeback and/or remake. Now
when I say remake... the version of RASTAN I have in mind is indeed
a remaking of the original game and has nothing to do with the horrid
NASTAR (Rastan 2) or *Warrior Blade: Rastan Saga 3 arcade games.
...well at least Taito just came out with Elevator Action 3 in the
arcades, too bad no arcade in North America will see it most likely
unless someone imports it.
A crazy 4-player version of Ice Climber with improved controls and vamped-up difficulty would be enough to convince me to buy WiiWare.

They actually did something much like that in Mega Man: The Wily Wars, which was a combination of the first three Mega Man games and was only available for the Megadrive in Europe.
Yeah. The Wily Tower was rather interesting.
/\ Cool, I'll have to look into that.

He meant one total game. Like you'd beat 8 robot masters, then move on to another 8, then play in a Wily's Castle twice as long as normal.
/\, Yeah, I meant having all 16 available in any order from 2 and 5. Clearly how the items from 2 affected the enemies from 5 and vice versa would have to be figured. I take it that is not what he was saying already exists then...
NES "Uninvited"
I would love to see a remake; with these Features.
Build your charactors face and body type.
Alot more ghosts.
A harder hedgemaze.
A few more secret rooms, to extend the game.
Drakon returning after you think you killed him.
And the choice to reverse roles where you are able to be on Drakons side, and the game goes in reversed where you attempt to help him with his plans.
QuoteAnd the choice to reverse roles where you are able to be on Drakons side, and the game goes in reversed where you attempt to help him with his plans.
I want this option for nearly every single game ever made.
/\ Would be cool to have a Mario game where you play as all the different Koopa kids (from SMB3) with different abilities (working for Bowser of course and against Mario).
I liked how they always included this in some of the Sonic games, where you could play as Shadow and others...They even gave Shadow his own game!
Yeah this "play as the bad guy" thing has long been a complaint of mine in the games we grew up playing (well... most of us anyhow). That SMB idea would've been stellar, in fact Shigeru Miyamoto would do good to actually make a game like that. Call the game something like: SMB: The Koopa Chronicles where you get to play Bower's side of his war against Princess Peach, going back to the original... have you having to actually kidnap Peach and slay the Toadstool soldiers and stuff, eventually trying to thwart Mario & Luigi.
I always wanted to play (have the option to) the enemy in aerial/space "shooter" games. Because as it stands, Good & Evil is subjective at best anyhow, both sides will see themselves as the good guys. I remember when I first played the PCE game Gate of Thunder I wanted to play as one of Don Jingi and Falcon's men a part of the Marauding Space Pirates. I don't see why game developers never programmed a reversed version of the game's plots. Instead of saving the galaxy, the levels would be the same and all... but it would now be against superior odds of what would usually be the lone pilot of a fading world??? Guess maybe with hardware limitations it wasn't possible?
Well, I guess until something better comes out, we'll have to stick with Stuper Bowser ;D
That isn't a bad idea, we see that role reversal in Donkey Kong. You play as Jumpman (Mario) in Donkey Kong to defeat Donkey Kong. Then in Donkey Kong Jr., you play as Donkey Kong Jr. to kill Mario and save Donkey Kong.
I have a few favourites that I'd love to see remade - in no order of preference these are:
- Shatterhand (DS!) - would be nice to see a skin that changed the graphics back to the Japanese version, I forget the name ;)
- GG shinobi (DS)
- kid icarus (needs to be on DS)
- MERCS (DS)
- Operation wolf (DS)
