Hello, is anyone here have a PSP???
I know this site is full of Nintendo fans and i bet they all have DS's, but i'm just curious!
There are quite a few people on this board (myself being one of them) who have PSPs. Some use them for modern gaming, some for classic gaming, and some for both.
I have a silver PSP 2000
I got mine the day it came out. Although, I rarely use it. (To be honest my mom bought it for my siblings and I) I used to use it for homebrew but my brother updated to official firmware without letting me know. (I have a Pandora setup though, so I can revert it)
I have a couple games but yeah, I really don't use it that much.
I do.
I have a fw modded slim. I loove that thing. The psp is my favorite portable console! Only the psp allows me to play all kinds of classic games while I'm taking a shit! I can also play new skool games while taking a shit! How can you lose?!?!? :D
Constipation -> not having to go to the toilet ;D
i have one too,
i really like that you can play foreign games on it just like a ds! ;D
That's how it should be.
Region coding for handhelds should be treated like felony. :D
i prefer the DSi (only thing is bad about the DSi is that the browser is crap)
You know that you can be a Nintendo fan and own other consoles. I know its mind boggling! :o
I use my DS Lite and CycloDS Evolution for homebrew and stuff. The addition of the touchscreen allows for some pretty good games. :)

Yeah. 8)
Take me, I'm a Nintendo fan and own all of Sony's console and almost all Sega consoles. I even have an Xbox.
I own a PSP, but sometimes I don't play it that much. Really gotta get back into it.
QuoteYou know that you can be a Nintendo fan and own other consoles. I know its mind boggling!
That is true. I happen to also own a 360.
I like Nintendo as well as Sega.
Now that's a quality console by Sega :P
I have one I haven't used in a year but I have seen the game days deals at gamestop so I might pick some of those 9.99 games up and play once again!
lol, since i can mod and un-brick PSP's, all of my friends gave me their PSP's and let me to do the job.
and do you guys know an APP called the "remote"? you can turn on the nearist TV around you by pressing a key on your PSP(only works with PSP-1000) !!!!!
and i know another APP for the PSP, i don't know the name, but it's pretty much a proto-type. what it do is that, you could turn off the nearist street-lights around you by connecting your psp's infer-red port to the street-lights, but i bet it only works on the phat PSP( PSP-1000). since this is "bad for the society, i've tried to tell my self not to always think of this APP!
and there is apps for the NDS???
wow, DS is catching up, FAST!!!!
I have a PSP 100X (I think it's a 1001.) it has 5.00m33-6 installed as the firmware
I also made a couple purchases on DealExtreme.
http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4121
http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.2979
http://dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12004
They should be here any day.
I have one of the PSP 3000s. I like it pretty well (been playing a bunch of Chessmaster on it lately) but I'm still partial to the DS myself. The larger game library really helps and alot of the Nintendo exclusives (Professor Layton & the Curious Village!!!) are some of the better portable games coming out this generation.

Thanks man! you just gave me a REALLY GOOD site for Nintendo DS R4's!!!
I have a PSP I only have a few games for.
You really should Mod your PSP, although the Moding process is not free, but after you Mod it you could download FREE complete games in the file of .iso, or .cso.
and you could get free apps for your PSP like installing Windows Vista or XP on your PSP.
Even though I am mostly a Nintendo fan boy, I am proud to say that I have a Sony PSP. I absolutely love it. The Final Fantasy remakes for it are hands down the best remake versions I have ever played.

Blech, the R4 is not a very good choice. Go with a CycloDS Evolution, it's the best flashcart on the market. ;)
Yeah, the Final Fantacy Crisis Core is AWSOME!!!!
and i'm still trying to find a R4 in my local flea market, but i'm always out of luck.
But the R4 doesn't get new firmware updates, right?
I'm pretty sure the "official" R4 development team stopped working on it. You can find a lot of knock-offs, but if you want killer support and great features, go for a CycloDS. ;D
The R4's firmware is periodically updated, but there is no requirement to upgrade.
Here is a picture of my PSP
Wow, that's your psp?? Oh you ordered a new face plate! It actually came?
I ordered a GBA flash linker and it never came,It Said the product is processing.

That's more than a faceplate... looks like a full-blown casemod.
yeah, true! :D
I picked up my PSP once again and charged it and all but I'm wondering what to do with it. I downgraded it to firm 1.5 last year and never got into updating it to the hacked firmware that'll let me play ps1 games and iso images among other things. Can anyone help me out on what to do? which updates to install and maybe a tutorial on how to upgrade my psp? Thanks!
okay, i'll help!
1) did you mod your PSP using a pandora battery?
Sweet. I am in the EXACT same boat. I have a 1.5 PSP capable of running emulators through the use of the old "two copies of each file" thing circa 2006. I would love to update my PSP but require guidance in doing so.
And no, I've not hacked it using a pandora battery. my psp is the actual 1.5 original firmware.
no I didn't hacked it with a pandora battery. I did a mod with some files etc etc. but then I mod it back because it wouldn't let me upgrade to a later custom firmware and I would try to update it again but then I got a ds and forgot about my psp lol.
oh, if you want to mod any PSPs, you HAVE TO HAVE A PANDORA BATTERY!
if you mod it with some files, that means you may have been fooled,
after you mod your PSP with the Pandora battery, you could install the emulators

That may be the case for some people, but for those who still have ancient firmware you can still do it via other techniques. For example, I downgraded mine using the Lumines exploit.
Can you write me a tutorial on what I need to do to get the custom firmware or simply link me to a reliable site will detailed instructions? Anything written with 1.5 PSP's in mind would be preferred.

It's been a long time since I've done anything with PSP homebrew (almost 2 years), but the sites I remember using frequently were:
http://dl.qj.net
http://forums.afterdawn.com
http://www.dark-alex.org
Those forums have plenty of tutorials. The last site listed is the site belonging to the guy who basically created CFW, so you'll find the latest firmwares there. Also, the first site mentioned provides a good number of homebrew/official firmwares if and when you may need them.
You could also try looking at PSPIso.com.
wait, do anyone of you STILL have the firmware of 1.5????
I do.
what do your PSP have for the XMB?? and is it custon firmware or is it original?
well mine started with 2.4 but I downgraded to 1.5 so that I can do the custom firmware upgrade. I'm lost though...
It's been a 1.5 since the day it was made. I'm not sure what you're asking me about the XMB, though. There's nothing special about it, as far as I know..
Oh, because the newer the firmware it is the differnt the XMB it is. Cause there will be improvements on the programes, like Internet radio,Sony Internet store...ext.
I don't have any of that. It's pretty much just bare bones.
Yes me too...I have nothing it's firm 1.5 after all....blah I'll do my research and try it myself.
I've heard (and seen on ebay) something called the pandora battery and a specifically formatted memory card bundle that can change the PSP (fat or slim) firmware into any other version at a touch of a button. Anyone know if this is true?
I don't know how easy it is, but many people use that pandora battery to do it, so yes, it's true.
Unfortunately there's no such device for the PSP-3000. I would so much want to play Super Famicom stuff on the PSP. The SNES emulators for DS are all crap. :-\
lol, i have tons of thoes Pandora batteries and some magic memory sticks at my house, cause i normally mod people's PSP's and give them Apps and Programes, like emulators.
I just recently updated and modded my PSP 2000 with pandora, I've now got firmware 5.00 M33-4.
Would anyone mind hooking me up with some killer apps and emulators? my email is satoshimatrix@hotmail.com. If you don't want to send them personally, can you provide me with some links? I'm also sort of clueless on just how to install homebrew on my new PSP. I have another PSP too, but thats still 1.50 and requires the dummy duplicate file structure.
Here is what I know I'm interested in. If you recommend anything else by all means please hook me up.
I'm looking for something I read on wikipedia that allows you to play PSP games on non-progressive scan tvs as well as boost the resolution when they are played on progressive scan. Hopefully you know what I'm talking about.
I'm most definitely looking for stable, reliable emulators for :
PS1
SNES
Genesis
GB/GBC
GBA
priority in that order. I just really want to check out being able to play Playstation isos on the go. Anything else like I said, I'm open to if you suggest it. I'm really looking to unleash the capabilities of my new PSP to new heights.
Thanks for any help you can give.

This is the most valuable resource for anybody looking for apps and emulators on the PSP.

There is really nothing good for the NDS except some really bad emulators.
Fuck society.
The NES emulators are pretty good for DS.
Really? Do they have screenshot feature???
...No?
The one i have lets you speed up with R and back up with L.
Really helpful in games like contra. :D
awww man the psp has screenshot feature. 8) man I want to fix my psp now! HELPPPP SOMEONE!!! upgrade my custom firmware!
I also want emulators.
Somebody hack the 3000 model, and quick!
can anyone help me set up the nes emulator on custom firmware 5.00 M33-4? I can't get the ROMs folder to appear! What am I doing wrong?
did it work? the emulators?
I was only able to get the Super Nintendo PSP emulator off you. It works perfectly, but I'm still looking for NES (with FDS support ideally) GBA and most of all, PS1 emulators. I'm just not sure on how to set up PSP emulators as many are out of date and give instructions for PSP 1.5 and the early 2's. I tried to download one NES emulator but I couldn't get it to reconize any roms, rendering it useless. So yeah if youc an help me out again I'd be happy, even if you wrote up a general tutorial that would help a lot.
okay, i'll see if i could help or not!
I personally don't have a PSP, but a friend of mine does and whenever we have a guys night or something, we would play the PSP because he hacked it to play Nintendo games, including Super Mario Forever and Mother 3 among other mario, zelda, and megaman titles
wow, you mean Famicom/NES emulators??
I'm sure you could but he specifically has the JNES v6.0 emulator on his psp. If I remember correctly, it's something about a battery hack?
I have a PSP as well. I bought it because I could modify it to play emulated games as well as PSX games, which is amazing. The only problem is that SNES emulator kind of stinks because it has trouble running certain games, especially games that contained a special chip (MegaMan X2-3, Star Fox etc.). There are GameBoy, GBA, SNES, Genesis and Master System, and PC Engine emulators for the PSP and those are just to name a few. This is the about only potential I saw in the PSP, because the system lacks goods games. Most of the good games for the PSP are remakes of PSX or SNES games (or even NES!). The only problem with the PSP is configuring each PSX game with different poploaders. It takes some time to find one that works 100%, and sometimes you have to go to one version for a certain part and then switch back (especially difficult was FF7). The battery hack you do is called Pandoras Battery. I just bought one because I didn't want to spend another 50 dollars on a real battery that I could never use again. The PSP will only run and install Sony certified software, so the battery allows you to bypass this security feature and install custom firmware, which allows you to run emulators and PSX games as well as PSP isos.
Okay! So now with nohara3's help. I've got PS1 emulation running perfectly on my PSP. Here's my question for folks who've already done that: do you know of a resource website where you can find the individual game components like scaled icons and game specific wallpapers? Popstation has you make your own, which is fine, but since a lot of people would be doing this, I figure there might be a resource for this stuff. Anyone?
