Title: I'm planning to replace my NES with a Famicom and a 72 to 60 pin converter...
Post by: Famicom Kirby on May 14, 2010, 10:23:02 pm
The topic name pretty much says it. I want to get a Famicom and a converter to put my NES up since my NES works but the outside isn't in good condition it's missing the dust cover and I wanted an excuse to get a Famicom. Should I do this to start my Famicom collection?
P.S. Is there any places to find a 72 to 60 pin converter?

I was going to do that then I knew that everyone I know except my younger brother would say "why would you want a famicom when you have a system that plays the Famicom games all ready?" (this has happened before with other things) Also I've wanted a original Famicom for years now and I finally figured out a way to get a loose Famicom without any wires besides the controllers that are wired in just I need to find a good site to find converters for good prices.

^I don't know how to do that and anyway I was going to retire my NES and get a Famicom and a 72 pin to 60 pin converter and play all my NES games on a Famicom then find hoshi no kirby yume no izume no monogatari.
P.S. Does any one have any suggestions of any famiclones or pin converters?

Still needs modding or a PowerPak to get expansion sound.

Keep in mind that certain converters don't support certain games.

I sell cheap converters 3 for $12 shipped to US. The look like this:

The only problems you'll have is if you have games that you want to use a peripheral like a nes lightgun game.

Actually, you still need to mod your NES to get external sound from the PowerPak.

Then you could just add an 60 pins slot on the top of the nes and you rewire everything to the NES connector (and cut security pin).
You'll be able to play NES and FC games on the same system.

Do you have a pic of that mod??

I started doing this about a year ago, getting rid of my NES stuff and sticking with Famicom and a converter for those few NES games I wanted to keep. It doesn't make sense to me to have both a Famicom and NES.

I've been doing the same thing lately as well. Any NES game I have that isn't American exclusive either goes to my brother or gets put up for sale. I love how small Famicom carts are and the fact they usually have better label art than their NES equivalents.

I use a toploader famicom with a converter for nes games.
You might have a hard time finding a decent converter though.  A lot of them cheap out for some reason and don't map all the pins so they won't work on some (MMC5) games.

That sounds a little odd to me. I would think that it's more likely that you're using a famiclone rather than a famicom that would be the issue. there are no different pins used in a mmc5 game...
