One thing I like about Famicoms is that they stack neatly on top of each other even though they don't really look like they should.
I managed to stack 8 of them on top of each other today:
http://famicomblog.blogspot.com/2010/09/famicom-console-stacking-next-olympic.html
I claim this as a world record, though probably if anyone has more than 8 Famicoms they could easily stack more than that number. I'm just wondering how high do you think Famicoms will stack without falling over? 10 I think is do-able. 20 though would probably be too many. Anyone who has access to more than 8 Famicoms ever given it a try?
I love your blog photos, really fascinating, keep doing this!
I can do some 3 famicoms and 3 famicom-look-a-like famiclones :)
Yeah, exactly like Lego! I wonder if they were intentionally designed like that or is it just by happy coincidence.
Thanks, jpx72, if I get a 9th Famicom I will definitely put up some more pics!
Hmm... I can personally verify that they can go 40+ high, at least against a wall. NES Toasters stack perfectly as well, and SFs stack so-so (25+ high with a little support). You can stack Atari 2600 and 7800 systems top to top and bottom to bottom as well.
Ive seen FC systems at a warehouse in 'blocks' 30 high by 10 by 10 (or something like that)before. Sickening. Yes, stackability was by design for ease of storage at NCLs manufacturing facility before packaging.
TBH, anything with a simple flat or angular (wedge) shape will stack as high as you want them given proper support, but I suggest doing it against a wall or shelf, in case you sneeze on them.
I love the colours an arrangements with the Pulse carts: Famimodern Art. Very slick! ;)

Thanks!
I'm going by official Olympic Committee rules here so stacking them against the wall doesn't count - they have to be stacked free-standing to qualify for the world record :)
That is really intriguing though, I imagine 40 Famicoms stacked against a wall would look pretty cool! You saw them at a Nintendo warehouse or something? Did you work there? My curiosity is piqued! Details! How did you come to possess this knowledge about the stack-ability of so many consoles!
I saw them at a junk-dealer's warehouse in Japan: A gigantic cube of scrap Famicoms for testing.

Thanks! I've been lobbying the IOC for sometime but not getting far. They aren't sure if its a summer or winter sport:)

Where is this warehouse in Japan? I might make a trip this weekend if its within driving distance of chiba.
Nice Pics
my only question is: why do you have 8 famicoms? it took me long enough to get just one....
I believe it's been said multiple times that he lives in Japan...
but still why do you need 8 famicoms?
For stuff like this. :P
Yup, for stuff like this! If I hadn't gotten them, there wouldn't be photos of 8 Famicom consoles stacked on top of each other floating around the internet, and that would be a shame. It is my homage to the beauty of this wonderful console.
And actually I have 13 Famicoms.
2 are AV Famicoms and 2 are Twin Famicoms so they aren't in the photos. Also I picked up another old-school Famicom since I took those photos so I now have 9 of them.
Its a sort of hoarding-type behavior on my part, it is so hard to pass up a bargain - my Twin Famicoms only cost 100 yen (about 1$) each for example. In Japan Famicom consoles are relatively easy to find and its sort of my hobby to buy dirty old ones out of junk bins and clean them up and make them work again.
this is why i want to go to japan with a shitload of american money
Japanese stuff is cheap in japan obviously,he picked them up for peanuts how can you refuse? BUY MORE lol
Set a new Famicom stacking record today. 11 Famicoms! Free-standing, no support!
I'm so proud.
I hope no cat or small child is nearby. :D

Yeah, no kidding ;D
When you get them 11 high, even a slight gust of wind will send them over.
