Title: NES/FC ROM Dumpers
Post by: botulismo on November 09, 2010, 05:33:54 pm
I was wondering if anyone knew how NES ROMs are dumped now and how they were dumped in years past? Information about NES copiers is kind of shaky online, and after a couple searches here I couldn't find any information about it. I saw on nesdev some schematics that looked like they were related, but I'm sure there must have been commercial devices that did it. I've seen devices that look like they might be used on gamedoctorhk but there's really no details about them, in fact on some of them they say "If you don't know how to use it, don't buy it." Plus, I don't see that they have any sort of connector to PC.

I have a SNES Rom Dumper that I've played with, and I know how SNES games used to be copied, so that's clear to me, but it's lead me to want to know more about how games get from cart to PC. Plus, I've seen NES ROMSs available even since the late BBS days, so the technology to do so must have been around a while. I'm not looking to do it myself or even own such a device, at least not at any point in the near future. Some names of devices and an explanation of how these ROMs got onto computers would be basically what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.
