Why not use a cheap plate from any second-hand store? I've seen KFC, Simpsons, Snoopy, etc. plates at stores for as low as 30 Yen.
To tell the truth, almost all of out tableware are not-for-sale plates and cups.  :D

As for the blog post: hilarious! Awesome stuff. ;D

This is brilliance on a scale I could never have foreseen. Well done. I try to do everything I can to make my blog interesting, but this is pure gold.

Aahaha, I enjoyed that.   But your precious plate!

Aha!  I got it.  Your plate was already broken, so you took the broken plate photos first, then you fixed it with super glue and photoed the rest of the story afterward.   ???

edit:   Ooooor you actually did break it.  :o ....   for the sake these two game bad asses to get over their differences, team up, and learn the value of friendship.

Thanks guys!   ;D  I wasn' t sure if this "project" would work out, so I'm relieved to hear that you liked it!

Manuel - yeah, we have a very mix-matched set of plates and cups at our place too.  I might try to pick up a Mister Donuts plates at the second hand shop to act as a replacement.

Satoshi Matrix - Thanks!

Tappybot - your second guess is correct.  I went outside in the middle of the "shoot" to break that plate.  Got some strange looks as I was doing so.

It was necessary though.  The two of them indeed had to learn the value of friendship somehow!
