Oh. My. God. This has to be, like, the second worst choice of games to do a video of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pERNUuCRdJ8&feature=relmfu
We should do something like this. ;D
Battletoads??? No problem, one of the easiest games 8) :-[
I'd be down, but I suck at almost every game. :-\
I'd like to do something other than Battletoads, because it was just done. Problem is, Battletoads was perfect: trial & error mechanics, checkpoints, variation in gameplay... I can't think of another game like that for the NES.
The closest thing that comes to mind is Snake, Rattle, n Roll, & the only problem I see with that game is the warp in the first stage making the biggest level gap if one person gets it (or one person doesn't get it).
Any FC games that come to mind? I'd like to pick a game people have played before, but not recently (Battletoads was perfect!) Gradius II works for me, too.
I'd be down for it.
Any game suggestions?
Ninja Jajamaru: Ginga Daisakusen
Transformers: Convoy no Nazo ;D
I just realized that Rockman 2 could be interesting with being able to choose your order of stages.
Of course, if someone's dumb enough to choose a stage they can't beat without a certain weapon, that's on them. ::)
WE'RE DOING INFINITE LIVES!!! :gamer: YEAH, BABY!! (http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/fighting0032.gif)(http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/fighting0066.gif) (http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/fighting0021.gif)(http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/fighting0042.gif)(http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/fighting0023.gif)(http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/fighting0019.gif) (http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/fighting0092.gif)
Awww, I was hoping for something along the lines of mahjong or Donkey Kong Jr. Math. ::)
Wait a minute, before the final, final boss on Mega Man 2, you need to have enough bubble lead, right? And there's no way to replenish it, if recall correctly. :upsetroll:
Edit: Wait a minute! I've got an idea! (http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/Themes/famicomworld/images/post/lamp.gif) I'm going to go to Romhacking.net. I'll be right back.
Cool Idea, theres so much we can do, example: Who can beat SMB the fastest, we could play in 3 groups of four and narrow it down competiton style. Or who can beat Rockman 2 the fastest on their own accord.......
I think that would be too easy. Using the shortest route, you only have to play through 7 1/2 levels.
Okay, I'm back. :diskkun:
That took a little more than a week. ??? Anyway, someone at RHDN hacked Mega Man 2 so your weapons refill after each death! ;D Yay! :D
I think this will make the perfect 4-player competition. Who's in? :)
Edit: I wanna use chat, but I never used it overseas. How is the delay from California to, say... England? :P
By the way, who here in the United States is on the West Coast?
I feel alone. :(
That sounds fun, actually.
This sounds pretty funny, but how would we be playing?? Will everybody need a microphone??
How long do you think it would take? It sounds like fun, but I'm not sure I'd have a whole evening to devote to it.
Speedruns take about 40 minutes, so I guess normal mortals would take about double to three times that time. At least.
I'll probably be able to do it.
Yes, you will need a microphone (hopefully a decent one).
And because we will be using a hacked Mega Man 2, you will need an emulator (or a Power Pak) & some way of video-capturing it (what fun is it when we can't compare each other's progress afterwards?).
We should devote at least (ATLEAST!) two hours. So at least three (ATLEAST!) three. :P You can take a break, but keep in mind we're still recording. :P
Do keep in mind though we'll have unlimited lives, so it might go quicker than expected. I want to do unlimited lives so as to prevent having huge gaps between players. Plus, no one wants to start a stage over! It sucks!
Oh yeah, & we'll be doing DIFFICULT mode... just sayin' ::)
What we call "Difficult" the Japanese call "press start". ::)
It would've been more interesting if they didn't sucked ass in the game...also infinite lives? You really have no game!

Oh? Bring it on! (http://www.websitegoodies.com/smilies/mad0138.gif)

How's March 16-18th anyone who is thinking about this? I'm thinking, of course, some time in the evening.
I'd love to join. What if there are more than 4 people, though?
If there's five people, which I'm hoping there will be, then I'll just commentate.
If there's more, though, then maybe the extras can be on standby? ??? You never know if someone will drop out. :-\
It looks like there's room to fit 6 videos at once, but I think that would be too busy... & noisy.
I agree. But how are we going to record gameplay and talk to each other? Nestopia and Skype? That could be taxing for small computers and laptops. I'll have to try it out before I commit.
Really? And how worse would it be with a capturing device & a separate audio recording?
FCEUltra takes up less RAM.
I'll do a test with my laptop.
Well, isn't the fun in listening to each other scream at the top of their lungs? Recording separately wouldn't be as neat.
I mean I want everyone's voices recorded separately on a mic so we can get better quality screams. ;)
Plus, I don't want the video game sounds overpowering. Especially when they're all put together.
Edit: Unless someone knows of a better way? I don't know... :-\
It would be difficult syncing woo of the audio with each video. Perhaps we should get in contact with the LPers and ask them how they did it.
I just realized BB Flash can be used to capture the footage & set to microphone! :D
That way we won't have two different recording devices going on at the same time.
But yeah, I'll still ask around & see how people do this kinda stuff.
Edit: If I'm going to just be commentating, I could record everyone's audio, though that might not mean the best quality for everyone else.
I'm interested in this if I could fit it into my time schedule. If we are short on people I will join :)
Great! I'll start a roster. :)
(I was almost going to give up on here.) So far I think we're looking at 2-3 people (not counting me).
Seems like the 17th would work best for me.
I'm leaning towards the 17th also, but no one's responding back. :(
Schoolwork is also piling up.
I may need to delay this. :-\
Last minute reminder! Tomorrow will be the Skype session! 6PM Pacific Time!
That's 7PM Arizona, 8PM Central, 9PM Eastern, & what's Japan? 1PM? :-\
We can also decide on changing the start time for the competition the following week if it suits more people better.
11 AM for Japan, I think.
Just saw the vid in the first link does indeed look fun. Still not as cool as being in the same room but whatever
You guys are all welcome to come to Chico, CA. ;D

I've actually had random retro gamers who live close to me track me down from my work on the internet and come over :o
For anyone who hasn't received my messages, my Skype username is jediquestmaster (jedi_questmaster@yahoo.com).

To everyone who is participating in this, you should have received a message, but if you haven't for some reason, we're still doing to contest. Friday will be the next Skype session @ 6 PM Pacific. The actual competition is on Saturday @ 6 PM Pacific.
