Title: Famicom and Super Famicom Price Guides?
Post by: nerdygrrl on March 16, 2012, 08:49:26 am
So I a new to the world of Famicom collecting and I was wondering if there was a price list similar to Rarity Guide or the MVS price list, but for Famicom games?  I would have to think with its fan following someone would have started a list by now.

For FC the best price guide is a cached version from the Rising Stuff forum.
There is also http://vgstats.blogspot.com/2011/08/famicom-price-guide.html but its prices are on the high side and it lacks many games (I count it has 392)

Other than that, you have to look at resellers, eBay, etc.

There's this, slightly outdated price guide for Famicom games:

I'd love to see one that's a bit more up-to-date, and a Super Famicom price guide would be awesome! :)

Perhaps a few of us to coordinate such a thing.  I love the price guide they put together over at the Neo Geo forum.   They have a guide for loose carts and another for full kits http://www.neo-geo.com/mvs/mvs.html

Obviously given the number of titles this is a little more cumbersome.  We could divide/assign the titles up alphabetically starting with the most common games and give each volunteer a chunk of games to research/price.  We would just need to come up with a predetermined criteria for pricing (past ebay auctions, sales here, etc)

its really hard to set prices, a good way to judge is by rarity of the games...then looking up past sales via ebay, browse online retailers (japangamestock.com), and then ask the going rate (there is a sticky topic for this in the buy/sell/trade forum: http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=1267.0)

I was thinking it would be good to have a comprehensive price guide for Famicom games.  That one linked to above is great and I give whoever made it a ton of credit, but unfortunately it only lists games that were sold on Ebay over that one year period (which is only about half of the games out there) and it doesn`t have CIB prices.

The one on Rising Stuff was quite useful.  The prices were not always accurate but at least it gave you an idea of the relative value of games.  It would definitely be a useful thing to have here, though I agree it would be very very difficult to pull off.

I know there are many factors can that affect a price, but the MVS online price guide is pretty good.  It offers avg of high and low sale prices and then has a separate price guide for kits.  The guys over there are just as OCD about cart and label condition and it seems to work well for them.

Obviously between the Famicom and Super Famicom we are talking about 4 X the amount of data than the MVS collection.

I think the eBay price guide was good, but I don't think US eBay sale accurately reflect the actual market.  Plus his prices included shipping costs.

Eh, a girl can dream.

This is very difficult, because prices change, too.
Once you compiled a list it's already old.

The best way is really look around different sources for a while and you'll get an idea what most games go for.
And in the end the most important point is "what is a game worth to you personally?"

One other idea would be to do something like Atari Age does with their rarity guide.  Prices might change but rarity doesn`t.

We could maybe rate them from 1 to 5 based on rarity?  Of course rarity would be quite difficult to guage for some games but it would be a start at least.
