Title: Would an American NES console work on a Japanese TV?

Would an American NES console work on a Japanese TV?
I'm thinking about getting an American NES console, but would it display properly on a Japanese CRT or LCD TV (with antenna input)?
(We always have questions about Famicoms on American TVs, but I think never this one...)
Some help would be nice.  :)

You wouldn't be able to tune it using RF, but the NES has such a convenient AV output that nowadays this is a non-issue. Just use AV and enjoy!

Ah, you're right!
I totally forgot about the AV output!
Thanks for reminding me.

But it's also good to know that an RF connection wouldn't work. Thanks again!

Don't forget that the toploader NES actually removed the A/V output.  Make sure you get an old toaster NES!

Yeah, it's a toaster NES I have my eyes on. :)

I've got a couple that I refurbished in my trade/sale thread: http://www.rfgeneration.com/forum/index.php?topic=8906.0

I'd be interested in trading for Famicom stuff if you're up for it.

will there be any trouble running a NES in Japan due to the different voltage? Im pretty sure Japanese households are 100v and US  are 120v.....might be a little lag in power?

It won't make the slightess bit of difference although the voltage will be lower it will still be 8.3VAC (at 100V) and it is unlikely that the NES will draw enough current to strain the PSU. I would however make sure you have a PSU that does output 9VAC rather then the slew of cheap replacement switch mode PSUs that output 9VDC.

I think the Famicom's poweradapter will work fine with the NES as long as the plug is the same. I don't know how the US NES plug looks like, but if it's the same that we have in Sweden it will fit.
Rest of Europe NES have a different plug plug than Sweden so don't confuse them :)

He could use a fami or super fami ac adapter and it would work just fine.

Not sure if this applies to other regions, but in Australia our official Nintendo NES/SNES PSU's are AC, as opposed to DC, so using them in a console that is expecting DC power is a big no no. You can still use a DC PSU in an Aussie NES/SNES console, but you can't use their AC PSU's in a Famicom for example which is expecting DC power. Something to be mindful of.

NES can take both, AC or DC doesn't matter.

Famicom on the other hand will go *poff* with AC :P
