Level with me, here. I was recently looking into the Messiah Generation NEX out of sheer curiosity, as although my NES works fine now there's no telling how much longer the thing will last, and it apparently runs Famicom games. I'm familiar with the purported glitches of the 'NES-on-a-chip' idea, and those don't bother me too much, but it's the rumors that it damages carts and isn't compatible with a lot of Famicom games that gets me.
Has anyone here ever bought one of these? Did it actually break anything you tried out on it? And is it worth it for running Famicom games?
Looks like no one owns one. :-\ I've heard nothing good or bad about the system. In all honesty, if you want to play Famicom games right, buy a Famicom. If you don't want a Famicom, buy a pins converter for an NES.
Alright, hmm...what kind of special adaptors or anything would I have to buy to get it to work on American TVs?
From the research I've done over these few months, some NES games play badly and A LOT of Famicom games don't work at all...Keep away.

There are some threads about this elsewhere here. For the most part, nothing special is needed, but it's recommended that you get a stepdown converter for the AC if you're using the original AC adaptor, which inputs 100v instead of 120v. It's can be a pain to get the TV connected, but if you work with it, maybe using a VCR and tuning it to the right channel, you'll get it.
Either get an AV famicom, or do an AV mod to a standard Famicom. I dislike my original Famicom because those controller cords are so darn short. AV fami rocks :)
Yeah, connecting the original Famicom can be trouble. I've found that the weak connections of my Famicom require me to stand my Famicom upright to get the best picture. I've got to mess with it more.
Alright, I'll look into a Famicom.
But, along the same lines, what is this? I've never heard of the company before, is this just another NES-on-a-chip?

its a clone system. i hate those, dont use em
Yea, the Yobos are another clone system. The ONLY true Famicom/NES experience is on original hardware. The rest are a NOAC that don't have 100% compatibility and a different color palette.
yeah but the av out on the av famicom or twin is better by far
Man don't kill NOAC Clones, 'cause no all clones are NOAC, Maybe I should open up some clones to show you some 85' 86' and 87' Famicom Clone. Some of them are really good on speed and color.
Maybe the clones from 90' to ahead are crap.
Get the real thing

It's probably easier to find a real AV modded Famicom than find a clone from 1987, yes?
Here, that answer is negative. Maybe in those places where the Famicom was released.
Clones from 87 are easier to find than clones from 2000+? That's pretty nuts.

Oh I get wrong your question, I tought you say it's more easier to find an AV TRUE FAMICOM than Clones from 1987. Here clones from the 80's are out target in consoles, I search for those 'cause TRUE Famicom never was released here. New Clones (NOAC etc) , we're full of those. Sorry if I get wrong the question.
The NEX is overpriced for what it is I have one. It doesn't work with Castlevania 3 (like most clones) and the controller sucks. It works with every Famicom game I have though. The Yobo is in fact worth buying if you want a small, cheap Famicom. Its a clone but a good one. An AV modded Famicom is workable if you can stand the 3' cords and the AV Famicom is your best bet if you don't mind spending a lot more. In the end, it comes down to what you want to spend. Here's a little chart of average costs
Yobo FC Game Console: $~30 + shipping
AV Modded Famicom: $~40 + shipping
NEX: $~60 + shipping
AV Famicom ~60-120 + shipping
Try to look for sellers who are selling the best deals. I was able to find an AV Famicom with 31 Famico games for $60.

Me too! Now I know what I was doing wrong... ;D
ha ha well you'd be surprised how many people simply buy the first thing that comes up on ebay.
Actually, knowing the amount of stupid eBay purchases my friends and family have made, I probably wouldn't be too surprised at all. It's what the Internet is for, I think.
