Last game you played?

Jedi Master Baiter

I was playing Wizards & Warriors III. So far this game looks pretty awesome being able to change into a Wizard & Thief and all, but I noticed you can do things in the wrong order and get stuck. :-\

For example, I went far down into the dungeon area and as a level 1 thief, fought the two "snakes" and now I can't get out. :(

King Neptune's Adventure (NES)

I'm borrowing a copy from a friend, and I'm pleasantly surprised with it. I don't know if I like enough to want a copy of it, but it's well above average for a Color Dreams game.

Rockman 2 on my AV Famicom.  Alas, I still suck at it :D

I've mainly been playing Ultra Street Fighter IV on my PS4, for hours and hours.  It feels like junk food.

Haven't played SFIV since Super AE, and there's new characters, red focus and other changes. Do you think it'd take long to get back into it again?
I totally understand your junk food comment, it feels like all I did when vanilla got released was play hours upon hours on end.

Red Focus didn't wreck things as much as I feared it would before Ultra's release. If you happen to play Honda like I do, have fun against Poison... in fact, all the new characters are pretty much monsters besides Hugo.
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...

Honda was actually my first main in IV, changed to Chun after a while though. Monsters; is it fairly balanced at least? Starting to itch, I need to check a few vids on the new mechanics.

A game I've been playing a lot over the past few days is Astyanax (NES). I picked up a stack of these for cheap at my local game store, because it's a good donor cart for reproductions. I've been testing them before shipping them off, and I've gotten better at the game with all the practice. I'm hoping to beat the game for the first time by the time I'm done testing the stack.

It's really a disappointing game, because the graphics and music are quite good. But the gameplay is so awkward, sluggish, and ultimately frustrating. If they'd put more polish into it where it really matters, this might've been a classic.

@ chowder

Keep practicing with Rockman 2. That whole original series is a masterpiece. And it may be brutal at first, but it's also fair.

Just recently picked up that game - it's on my list to beat.

There are a few of those rough, unpolished platformers on the system. Case in point, last night I played through Strider, which was super buggy in the way that only certain Capcom titles can be. Despite its roughness I quite enjoyed it and was a bit surprised at its (lack of) difficulty, considering other Capcom games from the same time period.
Favorites: Castlevania, Metroid, Namco 18

Oh yeah, Ultra is definitely a balanced game. Of course there are tiers, but any character can win consistently with the right reads/adaptation.

I've been playing Zen: Intergalactic Ninja on NES a lot, I got into speedrunning it... 16:21 is currently my best time, though I know I can do even better if I can master a couple risky glitches I've seen pulled off on videos.

Been playing M2's 3DS version of Gunstar Heroes.  Great game, but those multiple boss battles are frustrating as hell.

Over the weekend I picked up Seicross, Renegade, and Rescue Rangers for NES.

RR is the real gem here of course, but the others are good for what they are. Renegade is of particular interest to me for its place in the history of beat-em-ups as well as heavy graphical overhauls through localization.

Plus I got one with that classy leftover of a bygone era: the "PLEASE REWIND TAPE" sticker on the back of the cart.

(I actually love getting NES games with "rental store residue," although I do wish US game shops were in the habit of discounting for blemishes like shops in Japan do)
Favorites: Castlevania, Metroid, Namco 18

Protoman

Played Ninja Gaiden and broke my record by getting to 6-2. Before THAT part. I need to get the jump spin slash weapon to advance, I feel. Fucking brutal game. If I beat it ever it'll take my top spot of hard games beaten, over Castlevania.

Nightstar699

Not really. Sure, the Spin Slash makes it effortless, but that screen is easy sword-only too - you just have to de-spawn the axe-thrower, jump and slash to take out the bird, and you're good.
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...

Please don't tell me Ninja Gaiden is easy, it's like a dumptruck of salt in my wounds
