Suspicious

Buyer: Famiac

- Solicited to buy an unlicensed copy of Pokemon but wanted to pay me in a few weeks.

- Item was held and in a few weeks and payment was made, but instantly put under review by PayPal (Happens when payment was made on a stolen credit card and PayPal gets charged back .PayPal recovers the loss from the buyer’s payment)

- Famiac asks if his item was shipped or not. I replied I did not intend to ship while under PayPal review.

- Ends up that it was deemed that I did not get protected under seller protection so I was charged back for the full amount. Gave me a stock page about preventing fraud.

- Famiac then solicits a DSi in exchange for Pokemon and Resident Evil instead of PayPal.

- I state that I will pay for all Courior expense and want the item tracked and verified.

- Famiac replies a few days before shipping saying that he dropped the unit and it was broken.

- I request pictures of the broken unit, since I can simply repair it depending on how bad the damage is.

- Famiac replies that he threw the unit out in the trash and doesn’t want to get it. Instead he says PayPal has unlocked his account and he wants to pay again.

- I suggest that we use an alternate method of payment like Western Union or a Money Order which can’t be reversed once made.

- Famiac insists on paying with PayPal since he doesn’t want to loose the item, and says he is too young to send a Western Union money order (Yet maintains a PayPal account and was able to send all relevant ID and documents to get it unlocked?)

- I state that the item will be on hold for as long as it needs for him to make an alternate arrangement for payment. I also note that even if he is under age, his parents can simply help him make payment, with him paying his parents directly.

- Famiac pleads to make payment with PayPal (as if there is some other motivation for it for which he has not disclosed to me)

- I state that, if he is as desperate to receive the game as he says, surely the small effort to make alternate arrangements for payment would be fine (especially after I said I would hold the item indefinitely for him while he does so). I simply state again that he has nothing to worry about in terms of loosing the item. All he has to do is make payment in another form other than PayPal, and it's his.

- Communication abruptly stops.

I do not know what situation Famiac is in and will let others judge for themselves about what they think has transpired, but I thought I should let the community know about this suspicious activity.

Also, please see this thread for more suspicious activity as well since this appears not to be an isolated case: http://www.Famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=3696.0

I'd assume it's a kid who doesn't know what he's doing and still has a few things to learn about purchasing things online. Perhaps he got cold feet from the whole thing and backed out. I was extremely cautious when purchasing things online for the first time too.

That's my theory.

As always, other people's mileage may vary... But in my experience, the big issue was never about getting payment via PayPal, but the transaction reversals that could come at any given time. From my research on the internet, PayPal initiated reversals are due to use of a fraudulent credit card. Since it could take a variable amount of time for the real owner to detect fraud and refute charges, the results may not be apparent for some time until after items are shipped in which case your are out of both money and product. In my case, the charge back occurred very quickly, so much so that I did not have time to ship anything yet.

But again, this is all speculation. I can only comment about what happened in my situation as-is and let others make their own minds up as to what occurred and the risks involved if deciding to deal with Famiac.

Anyways... I'm not going to argue and dispute over the little details. I'll let the events of my experience speak for themselves as other people are quite capable of making up their own decisions.

famiac

ill just forget about it you are right.

Sorry guys, I had to split the topic, because the Feedback thread is not for discussions and 1 post per person only.

Trenton_net, please post your feedback - in short (maybe with a link to this thread) - again in the feedback thread. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Its not really a dispute... Simply our transaction was not able to be completed. I posted the details of what happend so anyone else intrested in making a transaction with Famic has more information to make an informed decision on the matter.
