Yeah, you mentioned that, which is what made me dig out the game.  It's pretty generic all around, but not terrible.  The weapons system is novel, although it's a bit tedious to switch attacks.

Finally I had a chance to play New SMB Wii.
Great game, but rather easy. I still haven't seen that Auto-play function pop up, because I still never managed to die 8 times in one level. Gone to world 8-2 in 2 sittings. I'm eager to see how this goes on.

Beat NSMBWii (helicopter suit FTW) and then played a round of Pole's Big Adventure.

I agree.  NSMBW's helicopter suit is the best new power up that's been in any Mario game for a long time.
