Parodius Da Level Repeat?

Hey all,

Just picked up a copy of Parodius Da! and am loving it! Big fan of the Konami shmups

However I played through a number of times, and as soon as I beat the first level bosses, the first level repeats itself. At first I thought I wasn't beating the bosses in time, or some other requirement, but after blasting the hell out of them with full powerups and watching them blow up, same thing happens.

So, question: am I missing something to get to the next level? Or is my cart glitching out?

I'm playing on all original hardware and haven't seen this before. Any thoughts on how to get around it?

I actually ran into this same issue, I've found that cleaning the game fixes it.

Phew, thought I was just going crazy! I gave it a clean already but will give it another scrub and hope for the best.
