I kind of like this take on the AV mod. Not mine, I saw it on ebay.

Another good thing about this mod is that it makes the controller cords a few inches longer  ;)

Although it's a little bit handy, I prefer my Famicoms to look a s stock as possible if modded.

Here's my style of modding:

No cuts made in the plastic at all. Controllers don't get any longer however :P

Very nice job,  zmaster18

The stock look is always great, but so is the few extra inches gained on the controllers  ;)

I did the same mod as zmaster18 but used a trrs jack, also I added new controller cords making both around 6 feet.

Don't have this fami anymore,I gave it to my friend a few years ago as a christmas present.

I'm curious as to where you got/made the longer controller cables?

X2 on that, im about to AV mod mine and was hoping to address the short cord issue.

I would recommend these cables if you wanted to make your famicom cables longer. Basically cut or desolder the original cable from the controller and then solder the wires accordingly to the controller and the console.

They carry 8 wires, (only 7 max needed), they're black and look thin enough to fit perfectly in the controller and console. Also with 25ft to work with you could make some ridiculously long cables.  ;D

Wow, what a great idea! I need to start doing this from now on!

I used a ps2 and 3rd party gamecube controller cords.

Since I had extra cords for the 1st and 2nd player controller for the famicom I reused them in conjunction with the longer cords as I didn't want to solder the wires directly to the motherboard.

Think im gonna go ^this^ route to extend my orignal cables. Im also going to build a NES>Fami controller adapter box that will plug through the expansion port on the front with 2 ports and will be spaced to allow me to connect my NES Satalite as well as supporting a zapper.
I think Muck or someone posted about the NeoGeo extension cable having the nifty plug that our beloved famicoms need up front, so Im gonna hack up one of those to make my adapter box. Will post progress and photographic evidence :)

I really try to retain the factory look with my systems when I mod them, hence why im building an adapter box, and not mounting new ports to the case. I will be adding AV at the same time as the rest of the build, but will make it seem as factory as possible. Cant decide If I wanna just add RCAs or If I should use a 4conducter mini jack and run an adapter off of it... decisions decisions

The problem with this method though is that there's some games that are incompatible with expansion port controllers (Super Mario USA comes to mind). What you could do is replace the controllers with NES controller ports, which is what I did with both my original Fami and Twin Fami. You don't even have to modify the case and you can still use the original controllers by swapping out the cables (though this requires desoldering).

I never knew that you were inspired by this Famicom when you created mine. Very interesting ;)
