How much can a disk hold in GB...

133MHz

GODs hold 1.35GB or 1.459.978.240 bytes, but the optical pickup has enough travel to read about 3GB worth of data.

The reason I'm asking is, Capcom Classic Collection is like 2.55GB in the PS2..I wonder if Capcom didn't even bother with the Gamecube because of it's size

satoshi_matrix

the mini-DVD format the Gamecube uses holds 1.5 GB. It is probably one of the biggest critisims of the system when compared to the PS2 or Xbox, even though the Gamecube was vastly techincally superior to the PS2. It's kinda funny if you think about it...in history the least powerful system outpreforms the others. Think about it:

16-bit Genesis and SNES outpreformed others like TurboGrfx 3D0 or any of those other systems nobody remembers from the early 90s.
Gameboy outpreformed Gamegear.
Gameboy Color outpreformed Neo Geo Pocket Color.
Gameboy Advance outpreformed anything that tried to contend with it
DS outpreforms PSP.
and now, Wii outpreforms PS3 or Xbox 360.

Don't get me wrong though, I love the Gamecube and the PS2. Both have their pluses and I'll still continue to play them for a long time to come.

So Capcom Classic Collection Vol. 1 would take 2 Disks or have fewer games on it

There's so much wrong with this, I don't even know where to begin.  First, define "outpreform," though I suspect you mean "outperform."  Sprites?  Sprite size?  Color palettes?  Layers?  Tiles?

As for the Genesis and SNES vs the TG-16/PC-E.  The TG-16/PC-E was marketed as 16-bit, but used an 8-bit CPU.  Essentially a modified version of the 6502 which was used in the NES.  The graphics chip, however, was 16-bit.  So things looked a little prettier.  The 3d0's graphics and sound capabilities were far beyond either the Genesis or SNES.  The problem is most of the software developed was never that great and the system's price tag was the biggest obstacle.

The Game Boy didn't outperform the Game Gear if you are talking about strictly technical capabilities.  The Game Boy and Game Gear essentially both used the Z80 processor, though the Game Boy's is technically a bit different.  However, Game Gear obviously had color capabilities, and supported more and larger sprites than did the Game Boy.  It also had more RAM, but it's not like much VRAM is required when you are dealing with 2-bit color.

The GBC ran on another Z80-like processor, however this ran much faster than the original GB CPU.  Sprites and sprite size remained the same, if I remember, but obviously color was added along with additional VRAM compared to the original GB.  The Neo Geo Pocket used a Toshiba 900H CPU which is a 16-bit CPU.  It used a Z80 as its sound processor.  It had a similar resolution to the GBC, but allowed more sprites and more colors on screen (without coding trickery of changing palettes during H-Blank).

I've just now realized that by you saying the Wii is better than the 360 or PS3 you obviously mean units sold, so I won't bother to continue.

The Gameboys have massive battery life compared to the other handhelds of the time, I think that made them popular even with the 'Gameboy screen looks like creamed spinach' advertisements of the era. Well that and the software :P

I mean the systems that outpreformed the others in terms of sales of genral popularity, not in techincal superiority. In fact, many of the techincally superior systems faded. Anyone remember the Phillips CDI? or perhaps the Dreamcase? I owned a Dreamcast, but for its lifespan of 1999-2002, it was rather short lived. Sorry I didn't define it better!

Thanks for the info

How much can a PSP disk hold..Is it more then the Gamecube

manuel

UMD (Universal Media Disc) can hold about 1.8GB as far as I can remember. That's a tad bit more than Gamecube discs.
