Doki Doki Panic failing to save?

I picked up my CIB Doki Doki Panic from the post office today and booted it up.  Works completely fine.  Player one had made it all the way to world 4 while the other 3 had some progress in world 1.  I turn it off and later I go to turn it on again and it seems the saves have been wiped

The thing is, I don't get any error codes and everything else looks and plays fine, but when the game asks me to save it saves as if nothing's wrong.  When the game essentially resets and goes to the character select, all progress is wiped again.  Nothing is wrong with the game other than it just seems to not want to save.  If I get game over it doesn't keep track of any levels I've beaten either

I have Castlevania and Zelda and those save as they should.  Is there anything I can do about this particular game? I can only assume probably not, as I bet something is corrupt.  I'm prepared to buy a replacement disk eventually if I have to, but that's not entirely ideal.  At least I wouldn't have to look for another complete copy as I already possess one...so a loose copy shouldn't be too pricey

I guess I'm being unrealistic in hoping there's a fix, but anyways I'd appreciate some insight.  Thanks!

EDIT:
While it is strange the saves got wiped, it seems it still saves fine.  I just tested it again and sure enough it kept the save.  Must've been a freak thing.  Definitely a relief as this wasn't the cheapest game I've ever bought  :-[

Could be a problem with either your FDS console or the disk itself. You may want to find someone with the means to completely re-write disks and get your Doki Doki Panic disk refreshed. Re-written with a clean dump of the game, just in case the disk has developed any bad bits.

Normally I think the CRC check that the BIOS does should detect if there are any disk corruption, but I guess it's possible that it doesn't in rare cases.

There's also a CRC in the save file that the game checks, and wipes the save files whenever they don't match with the content I think. Somehow this save file isn't written properly so the game wipes it.

How do you power your FDS? Faulty AC adapters or cheap batteries could cause strange behaviour.

I wouldn't recommend this....
Rewritten disks are rarely as functional as the original write (or disk writer write)

Anyways, as for why doki doki didn't saving properly. Could be lots of things I think, dust on the disk, something that disturbed the writing and corrupted it, some temporary problem with the disk system, etc.

Even if one has a fully enabled FDS drive that can re-write the entire disk?

Home-rewritten disks tend to not work on all disk drives.
