Hi all, I have just received a z64 but with no power supply.
I have read in the user manual that it uses an Input: AC100 - 240V, 0.2A - Output: DC +5V / Maximum: 1.6A.
Does anyone on here have a original z64 power supply that could tell me (or have a picture) of what the centre pin is if it is pos or neg and if it may be ok to go up to 2 amp as trying to find a 1.6 amp power supply is difficult.
Cheers and hope someone can help  :bub:

I'm not sure. I think the required current is quite high to drive the ZIP drive

I sold my CF modded Z64 to get a 64drive a while back. I'm curious as to why you opted for the Z64.

Mosdef

I bought it for nostalgia reasons as I had one many years ago and just wanted it for a bit of fun, I do have an everdrive as well for better compatibility.
I actually found out the polarity being centre is positive, but the problem is now that it seems that the z64 I have may be faulty as the lcd screen turns on with nothing on it.
I pulled it apart and removed the zip drive as that seems to be faulty as well not reading, but if I switch it on with out the zip drive the screen does show "self test z64 chip error" but as soon as I put the zip drive back on it shows nothing... Very strange!!!
I m beginning to think I may not be be thowing enough voltage into the z64 as I am using 5v 1.5a instead if 1.6a as the original power did!
Maybe some power guru can help me out here  :'(

You might need to reprogram the EPROM with the latest BIOS.

Mosdef

Just waiting on an eeprom programmer as I speak, I hope thats all it is otherwise it's an expensive experience!!!.

I have been looking for over a week on the net for my "self test Z64 chip error" problem and cannot find anyone who has had the same thing, only people who have black squares across the screen  :'(

An EPROM programmer is a very useful thing to have, so don't worry

didn't think so.

1.5a or 1.6a is quite close to each other. there should be no measurable differences at all. no need to worry if it's true 1.5a rated PSU, pal.

Mosdef

Thanks for that info famifan.
Well I received my eprom programmer and was able to read the chip and it had errors, so I erased and updated the z64 chip and verified with the 2.20 cf bios... No problems there so I popped the chip into the z64 and I still have the dreaded "Self Test Z64 Chip error".

I'm stumped! I cannot find anywhere a person who has had my same problem, it must be another chip on the board that is causing this
