Hi everybody!

I have a question... is the Gamecube power brick universal? I mean if it works with 90~260V with no adjustments whatsoever. Mine says 120VAC in but inside looks like a universal switchmode power supply, like I could plug it anywhere in the world and it would work, like most modern electronics. I live in a 220V country and actually use a step-down transformer to play, but it's a little (I mean a lot) bulky to carry around with the GC. So I want to know if you guys have any previous experience with this.

I found my answer.... but not by myself :P, reading another forum I frequent, a Chilean one. I read a post from somebody who blew his Gamecube power supply and possibly his whole Gamecube by hiding the step-down transformer as a way to prevent his little sisters from playing it. So they (the little sisters) took a plug prong adapter to fit the USA 120V plug into our European type sockets and plugged the thing straight into 220V, and the thing blew up with a nasty explosion and lots of foul-smelling yellow electrolyte from the exploded capacitors. They left everything like nothing had happened and the guy returns and finds his Gamecube won't power up and the power supply is dripping a yellow nasty liquid, so now the poor guy is asking for help, he is afraid his Gamecube blew up too.

So now you know it: The Gamecube PSU appears to be a Universal one, but it is not. Plug it into 220, and it will explode. ;D

And also for the curious, here's the original thread (spanish) http://www.chilewarez.org/index.php?showtopic=372168
