Great Hierophant

I rediscovered this video the other day.  The video maker certainly has a very wide variety of Famicom hardware available to him.  Only the Sharp C1 Famicom TV doesn't have a sample, and the reason why is obvious.

Here are a few notes about the Famicoms :

01 : HVC-CPU(01) (either fixed or missed in the recall)
02 : HVC-CPU-05
03 : HVC-CPU-06
04 : HVC-CPU-07 Older Manufacture (Likely a Rev E CPU)
05 : HVC-CPU-07 Newer Manufacture (Likely a Rev G CPU)
06 : HVC-CPU-08
07 : HVC-CPU-GPM-01
08 : HVC-CPU-GPM-02
09 : HVCN-CPU-01 (AV Famicom)
10 : HVCN-CPU-02 (AV Famicom)
11 : AN500, Before Output & External FDS (Twin Famicom)
12 : AN500, Before Output & Internal FDS (Twin Famicom)
13 : AN500, Rear Output & External FDS (Twin Famicom)
14 : AN500, Rear Output & Internal FDS (Twin Famicom)
15 : AN505, External FDS (Twin Famicom Turbo)
16 : AN505, Internal FDS (Twin Famicom Turbo)
17 : AN510 (Famicom Titler)

I do not know the difference between 11 & 12 and 13 & 14.  It sounds like 13 and 14 are using the rear AV jacks for output.  The Twin has an RF port, but it does not sound like that source is being used for 11 and 12.  Perhaps there is a spot on the Twin's PCBs where you can easily tap the mixed audio. It should be obvious that all the original Famicoms have their audio being tapped from pin 46, not from RF.

My impressions are that I do not really hear differences between the pre-GPM units.  The HVC-CPU-07 seems to be the most common original Famicom PCB revision and it seems to be the ideal of how most people would have experienced expansion audio, especially with FDS and earlier games.

The GPM units tend to be subtly distinct from each other and the expansion audio is a little more prominent than in the HVC units, but to say that the expansion audio drowns out the internal audio is an exaggeration.  The AV Famicoms are in the same league as the GPM units here, but sound a tad cleaner.

The Sharp units, even the Titler, sounds like they overdid it on the filtering.  The sound is rather muffled.
