FC motherboard oddity

The FC motherboard has all the main stuff (RAM, CPU, PPU, etc), and it's also connected to a daughterboard.
The daughterboard handles video output and power input, which tells me that initially, it was going to work like the RCA Studio II, where the power and video ports were put on one box.

I believe you're otherthinking. It is (or used to be) a common thing to separate the power block from the rest of the electronics. Also it's easier to replace parts than the whole thing. Today nobody care and they replace the whole product but it wasn't like so 30 years ago...
