I had no idea no one has ever "beat" tetris before And technically, if the levels can go up to 255, it still may have not happened yet it sounds like. Seems like it would be a good discussion:

Yeah, it's more of a kill screen than anything as the game doesn't have a defined stopping point by the developers. Of course, they never thought any human would get past level 30 or so lol.

What's funny is if you look on the back of the American box, it states 20 levels.

You'd figure they'd code some ending sequence with a nice russian spiral building, but nope, it keeps going.

What about other builds like the arcade, gb mono? its all kill screen style?

Edit: And that UK Skynews whatever reporter, what a karen. She has no concept of how to wipe properly.

Honestly no clue, I am pretty horrible at Tetris so I haven't looked into it. If anything, it would probably be like you said, the Kremlin or similar, but it keeps going after a determined point.

That sky news lady should see that zallard dude play Punch Out if she thinks this is nerdy.

This video does a really good job describing the challenges of getting past level 255 and looping the game.  Sounds like it is humanly possible, would just take a bunch of time, skill, and concentration.

In Soviet Russia, Tetris beats you. Wait, that's totally normal. ???

It states you can 'set your pace' from 20 skill levels, which isn't wrong. The box's description is somewhat mildly prophetic:
QuoteIt's challenging and the pace is demanding
If only you knew. :blinky:

Okay, I feel dumb. Is the world record done on 'Type-A' mode where there aren't cutscenes (I assume it is)? Does a 'Type-B' record even exist? ???

I can proudly say I've looped the Famicom version of BPS Tetris, because it is so damn easy. :diskkun: That game is practically broken.

In her defense, who's watching sky news? Gen X'ers who typically hate millennials and everyone after? In other news, darts is a respectable life goal, and apparently a sport as well: https://youtu.be/VFOw7PkwvQ0?si=PnzJM7pHMnzyTDna

I'd now like to take this time to nominate any activity requiring the physical exertion of the right forearm an athletic sport. :gamer: (nothing against darts by the way)

I haven't played the NES version very much, but the Gameboy version does feature ending cutscenes even in Type-A mode, you see them after you hit the skyline (Game Over) if your score was high enough.

Type-B is very beatable, I'm not particularly good at Tetris and I could beat it as a kid many times (though not consistently) on Gameboy. Getting a small rocket launch ending in Type-A is harder than beating 9-5 on Type-B (which awards the large rocket launch scene) though.
An ultimate Type-B record would probably just be maxing the score before beating it, if that's possible.

I guess the BPS Tetris is so easy because you get 3 lives and the difficulty doesn't raise so quickly either. I think it's kinda hard since it lacks soft drops and I tend to do hard drops by mistake (I do this in Tetris 99 as well).
