...or do all Famicom controllers have a problem with diagonals? My old Famicom did it and my Twin Fami has the same issue, despite the fact that I cleaned the controllers for both. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Maybe the rubber domes or plastic are just worn out? Try playing on the 2nd joystick for a while (supposedly it is less worn out than the first one which gets all the abuse, also great advice for playing on arcade machines ;D) and see if it has the same problem.

I think it's different usage patterns. As when you learn to ride a bicycle and you grip very firmly to the handle, but when you get more experience you grip it very lightly, or ride with one hand, or no hands at all ;). I noticed the same pattern when I'm a noob at some game, pushing the buttons really hard, and when I get good at it, I push them very lightly and very relaxed (like no stress dude, I know what I'm doing ;D). Maybe your cousin is a button masher? ;D.

Me too! I think it's the best advice for the arcade-dweller ;).

i hold the controller very lightly and dont push buttons at all thats why i suck at halo b/c you have to hold buttons

Hmm, so this is how people manage to break controllers. Ever gone into a gameshop that has a gamecube set up? 9 times out of 10 the controllers are in worse shape than if a hurricane struck them!

Myself I've never worn any controllers out.

Jollie

yeah man they shred those controllers so much.  i played a 360 in a gamestop that had a broken LT button and a messed up A button.
