Dragon Quest 2 Password Help

I realize this is kind of a stretch, but does anyone here know how the passwords in Dragon Quest 2 work? You see, I'd been playing for a long time, and now my password doesn't want to work. The funny thing is I could've sworn I used it before, but now it refuses to work. I really don't want to have to start over, especially after all the work I put into it.I simply hope that by posting the password in question, someone who knows how the system works could possibly help me correct it. Any help would be appreciated.

Aren't you missing a character on the last line?

Are you sure there wasn't a transcription error?  I know I've screwed up writing down passwords before and had to change similar-looking letters around (H->N, Y->V, etc) until I eventually got it right.
