Edit: I bought a Famicom, so this thread is invalid now. Thanks! Feel free to lock or delete this.

Do you know about the near-requirement for A/V modification for using them stateside? Unless your television is very well behaved, you will likely not be able to get a proper display signal on one that is not.

Additionally, blast white units are getting harder to track down, and the cost on them has jumped as fewer exist. I could sell you one with some light to moderate toning on it that is A/V ready, but I usually only have snow-white units CIB.

Have you considered buying a Twin Famicom system? These were made by Sharp from 1986 to around 1992, licensed by Nintendo and are both a Famicom (genuine hardware) and FDS, and have A/V out by default., They're a sexy, all-in-one solution and come in charcoal, cherry-red, and for the more-expensive models, jet black and red-orange colour schemes.

You may wish to consider simply buying an AN-500B and paying the extra cost in advance, if you ever plan to use the FDS library.  :bomb:

P.S. Before anyone mentions Retr0Brite, yes, you can restore the colour, but you also need to replace the decals, and I need to order more reproduction decals before I can de-yellow more units. Even then, it's a time-consuming and material-costly process, so it adds to the price.

I store all the FC systems that I have in stock in sealed, opaque containers, boxes and crates, away from evil UV rays, so at least they won't get more yellow while in my possession.

You'll make a great marketer for any company hehehe. Not to mess up on OP' thread but how much does an AV Famicom, NIB will cost me nowadays?

I was going to recommend OP some ebay listings but with what Xious said they are not worth it.
Looking NIB:  Macross, Sky Destroyers, Battle City, Galaxian, Galaga, Chip N' Dale: Rescue Rangers, Bomberman, Excitebike, Mappy.

I stick by my decision of wanting the original model Famicom, but if it's been modded for AV output that's all the better.

You can always haggle the seller on ebay for a lower price. I would go for an AV modded Famicom with someone from here.

There is always ebay. Buyer pays for seller fees - $4-$5-$8-$10 bucks whatever the case might be on top of agreed price and case closed. That's how I like to do it. Paypal is prone to scamming sadly - for both buyer and seller. At the end of the day it's better to pay a few more bucks using ebay for a smoother, safer transaction.

I got scammed once trying to sell my runescape account on paypal. Never again will I fall for such a thing.  I guess you can do paypal deals. Just be sure to make the terms of sale clear and know who you're dealing with. Even in that case the buyer has too much power and can pull out a scam easily. You have to have concrete proof of the sale to win a case. Add to that the "not as described" scam and BAM. Ebay is such a better option - to say that they are the same company hehehe.

Quote from: 80sFREAK on January 21, 2012, 04:11:31 pmWhy paypal? That's strange for me.

Because Paypal works simply and easily and everyone (almost everyone, I know from your sale thread you don't) accepts it. It's what's easiest for me and I find it to be the easiest method of online transaction. I've used Paypal for dozens of transactions online and and never had an unresolved issue.

I don't understand why this is becoming such a big deal. I'm going into this with a good idea of what I'm doing. I'm assuming that whoever I buy the Famicom from will already have a good standing in this community, so I'll be able to count on them. I know that the people here know what they have and know what they're using so I won't pay money for a Famicom off eBay only to find out it has some sort of problem. I'm willing to pay $80 because I want a Famicom in good condition to sit there and look pretty when I'm using it. I care about aesthetics.

If it's a concern for everyone, I've got a lot of positive feedback on eBay. My account is here.

As I said, I have some with slight toning that I sell for around your desired price range that include a pre-installed RetroVideo A/V kit. I can't sell a virgin, snow-white one for that price, but you will get a fairly nice A/V modified unit for the price mark you desire.  :bomb:

^^^ This. That is as white as they get unless you want to Buy "new" out of the box. There are a few more on ebay for the same price range + checking everyday also helps.

That's nearly white; more of a cream toned unit, and is also ~US$105 delivered w/o A/V conversion. Sounds about right.

I'm not sure how many I have close to snow-white at present. I have quite a few in the cream to beige range though, some of which are similar to the one in that listing.

Perfectly white models are normally CIB, and command a premium.  :bomb:

Xious, if you could PM me a picture of the whitest loose AV-modded Famicom you have and how much you want for it I'll probably buy it.
