Twin Famicom Disk Drive & slight sound issues

There's no way that the disk would load if the hub isn't staying in place. It would fall to the bottom of the spindle and wouldn't even make contact with the disk center ring.

I'll shoot some photos up across the weekend.

But for immediate clarification

In that picture the object on the right, (the spindle head) is shown correctly aligned with the set screw side/flat side facing the lift pressure arm to it's left.
In my twin famicom, the spindle head/object circled-right. Is free spinning, even when the little screw is as tight as it goes.
Therefore just about every time I loaded something, the spindle head would be in a new positon.
Any suggestions on how to fix that issue/ Insight on if that's my last issue, considering my speed is pretty much optimal.

So it moves but it doesn't move? Well anyways.

Are you talking about tightening the grub screw that is adjusted in the picture?
You mustn't tighten the little screw very much. Haven't you read the guides?  ???

Oh, it's only in the Japanese guide.  See? http://www.dcn.ne.jp/~asuka/index.files/ds_hokan/disksystem.html  ;D It's in red.
I think the guide on famicomdisksystem might need an update.
Try loosening it anyways. It should just be very lightly tightened for best performance.

I don't know why exactly this is so, like I said in the previous post I don't understand the function of the drive head....

A funny thing I can tell you from today. I was fixing a system, and the three screws that are blue triangles here

were very lightly tightened. This is normal for systems that have never been fixed before so I didn't think too much of it and tightened them as normal after I had put in a new belt. But actually it didn't work then, the belt somehow got stuck all the time. I had to loosen all three of them, and then it went smoothly.

This system amazes me each time. Always something new that goes wrong.

Just wonder, all of your units such a worn down trash? Why do you have to do this big amount or adjusments? Or just you love the process? If screws was tight proper and it does not work, it might be physically damaged frame - unit has been dropped into truck from some distance(hello, rugby lovers!)

About belt - IT'S JUST A BELT.

Maybe, just maybe, you don't know what you're talking about, 80s FREAK.   ::)

Agree...

Sometimes they work directly, but I do buy all kinds of junky ones. That's why I get them so cheap...
Also, the older models are less well built. The little metal part with the hole I point to in the picture isn't in the older models, for one thing.

The newer models (including Twin Famicom) seem to require less calibration.

Another thing is that you want all disks to work. It's easy to calibrate to get one good disk to work, but then customers start to complain they get errors from some other disks...

The properties of the belt (material, length, elasticity etc) will affect the speed that it turns, which will affect the reading of disks.

About metal plate i would not completely agree with you. If we talking about FDS, there is 5 known revisions of control board and at least two revisions of black Sharp Twin. Shape of support bearing plate on your photo is more unusual for me than usual. I think i have one drive with the same shape plate, so have to check date codes on the IC's

Here is the earliest one I have, the motor says it was made Dec 25, 1985 so it must be the first batch (the system was released in 1986).

It doesn't have the hole in the PCB at the top-left,

But it does have a hole to the right of the magnetic head, for some reason.

Now please don't start with your sarcasms again.
I know that this is all either obvious or wrong to you, that you already know this, blah blah blah, everyone is stupid, I am wrong, and so on.

I hope someone else will find this interesting... ???

Frank_fjs

Great to hear. That was me that suggested the disk cleaner, I bought one and used it to revive several disks.
