I was about to buy this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221073960817?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619

Then I see in the description that it doesn't work on a Twin Famicom... then I remembered I had a similar adapter once and it didn't work
either... is it just that these adapters dont work on the Twin, and if so, why?

Frank_fjs

Pretty sure they do actually work, you might just need to pull it upwards a fraction after inserting.

I have one of the bare PCB adapters and it works fine on my twin.

P.s. That's an expensive price, I've seen them around the place for $10.

Here you go, 3 times cheaper : http://stoneagegamer.com/nestofamicomconverter72-pinto60-pin.aspx

One of these?

I can get one of those cheap but.. they look like they might break easily... how are they?

Frank_fjs

Yep, one of those. Has been working fine for me, you'd have to be pretty careless with it to break it.

If you want a cased one, StoneAgeGamer has them for $11, check the link in my previous post.

I saw the link and I would prefer a cased one, but I'm still weary of it not working, dont want to waste money. Have you tried either
of these on a Twin Famicom or do you have an orignal fami?

Frank_fjs

I only have the bare PCB version, same as the picture you provided, and it works without a hitch on my twin fami.

Most NES  > Famicom adapters are just incorrectly built. Pirates often don't pay much attention to finer details like this or Castlevania 3 etc type special games.

I have a bare pcb one but you have to face the NES game backwards. It works fine with every game i've tried in my twin. It's kind of a pain to remove out of games though and you cant bump the console at all with it in or your game will freeze.

You'll have to do some mods to it if you want CVIII and a few others to work though. It's pretty easy though, just cut a trace and then wire up a couple of pins. Getting it modded for PowerPak audio is almost as easy too.
