Would A North American Light Gun Work On Famicom Games?

I'm planing on getting a Famicom Twin sometime soonish. I was wondering if my NES Light Zapper and Power Glove would work if I plugged them into the side expansion port on the Twin Famicom. That way, I can play Famicom games with a Power Glove! That, plus most of the good light gun games were released for Famicom first. I know I'd need an old CRT television, but I found one at a pawn shop I'm thinking of buying.

They cannot be plugged in without an adapter because the plugs are physically incompatible, but the necessary signals are present.

Does anyone know if there's a NES to Famicom controller adapter that would work on the Famicom Twin for sale somewhere? I don't have the electrical know how to build one myself, and my NES Light Zapper and Power Glove are glorified paper weights, gathering dust!

Okay, so I found this on eBay: http://bit.ly/VwlFiz Has anyone actually bought and used this on a Famicom or Famicom Twin system? If so, does a light gun work on it? The Famicom light gun is WAY too expensive!

I followed the diagram in this thread http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=4564.0 and it works flawlessly with a Zapper but I don't know about the Power Glove.

No electrical know how required, just get hold of NES controller extension cables and a NeoGeo controller extension cable, cut the cable and solder the wires according to the diagram or use one of those connecting cubes or whatever if you don't want to solder. Just don't wire it backwards as I did at first.

You want the opposite actually, that cable you linked to lets you use Famicom controllers on an NES. In any case, I'm appalled at how much shipping is for that. $30 to ship a little cable, really?

As P said, it's actually fairly easy to build a controller converter, I built one myself a few months ago and it works pretty well. Before that I just bought a pirated Zapper that plugs straight into the Famicom. I don't really need it anymore so you're welcome to buy/trade it from me if you want.

How much for the Famicom Zapper? Plus, how much for shipping to Canada? I can't get it right now. I'm saving my money for a sci-fi con at the end of the month. Chances are, I'll be broke until January. That, plus I have to get the Famicom Twin first, so it might be a while.

P

They are a bit rare so usually between 70$ and 100$ for a loose one and almost the double for a complete set with Wild Guns. Also there's a holster that was sold separately that also goes for a lot.

You are better off just using a zapper with an adapter and save some :coin:.
NeoGeo controller extension cables are sold for cheap at Tototek.

I have NO idea what I'm doing in regards to making my own adapter, but if someone would tell me which parts I need, I'd buy them and send them to someone who DID know what they were doing! I'd also pay for any shipping charges. If not, the same seller on eBay has a bootleg Famicom zapper from Venezuela that's expensive, but cheaper than the alternative. Unless someone has any idea where I could get a cheap Famicom friendly zapper alternative. I'd still need the adapter for my Power Glove, though, either way.

Update: I found a cheap official Famicom Joypad controller on eBay, which gives me the cord I need. I also found a Sega Master System light gun, because I need a cool looking black colored gun that would match my Famicom Twin. While I hate gutting either one, is there someone that would be willing to take the Sega cord out of the Sega gun, and put the Famicom plug in it? Would that even work, or would I need to use the NES gun I've had since my old, now broken NES actually worked? I can't use the gun on my Retron 3, so I'd be okay either way. Like I said, I'd pay for shipping both ways.

P

I already told you what parts you need. Just a female NES controller port or two and a male Famicom expansion plug. The NeoGeo extension cable has the same plug as the Famicom expansion port so no need to sacrifice a Famicom controller for that.

I don't know about the Sega lightgun but if I would guess it won't work.
Since you need to build an adapter for the Power Glove anyway you can just use your NES Zapper as a cheap alternative.

I also suggest to at least take a look on that diagram I linked to and give it some time and you will understand it. You just need to connect the wires together (and preferably solder them) and isolate them from each other with insulation tape or something. No components or anything needed, and you can ask people here if you are not sure about something.

I actually had another idea. I was looking at the player 2 Famicom controller on eBay because I want to play the NES version of Legend Of Zelda to see if the mic trick works. Plus hey, fun with Famicom mics! Freak people out when they start playing! The wires on the replacement are exposed because it needs to be hard wired into the system. How much work would it take to cut off the end of a 3rd party NES controller I bought but won't work on my Retron 3? You know, so I could turn a Famicom player 2 controller into an NES player 2 controller?

Also, would I be able to hard wire a Neo Geo controller wire straight onto my NES Light Zapper, so I could use it directly on the Famicom Twin I'm only getting when I have the money to spare? The NES to Famicom adapter wire would only be for original NES joysticks and my Power Glove, because I want to keep it the way I bought it last year. I don't want to hard wire anything to any of my systems, because I just don't like the bare wire look. That, plus with my luck, I'd find a way to zap the system. What do you think?

P

NES controllers are identical to Famicom Controller I on the insides but Controller II are more complicated and has an extra wire for the mic. Making a Controller II with mic to work on a NES would probably take some extra work due to the mic and I don't know anything about that. The Famicom Twin has a Controller II with mic though.

EDIT: I missed that you are trying to play the NES version of Zelda. Anyway I think it's confirmed that the mic doesn't work on that. But if you want to test it anyway it's easier to just get a NES to Famicom cartridge adapter and play it on your Famicom with mic.

The wires are not supposed to be exposed on a replacement controller but they should look like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/NINTENDO-FC-FAMICOM-CONTROLLER-II-2-JAPAN-NEW-/140850415471?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item20cb56c76f. Note the black male connector that you can connect to a connector on the Famicom board if you remove the shell.

Yes you can hard-wire the Zapper but it won't be any easier than making an adapter, the Zapper won't fit in a NES anymore and if you are making an adapter for NES controllers and Power Glove anyway you can use that same adapter for Zapper. No need to hard-wire anything.

That eBay listing is the controller I wanted to buy. The Zelda problem is one I can fix. The original Legend of Zelda may have been for the Famicom Disk system, but they did a cart version later, due to popular demand. I'll just buy that.

The reason I wanted to get the NES wire put onto my Famicom controller is to have a Famicom controller that I could plug into an NES system. I found a Japanese turbo fire Joy Card. There isn't a mic, so that extra wiring shouldn't be a problem. This is it: http://bit.ly/SMGRk4

The reason I want the Famicom wire hard wired onto my NES Light Zapper is because I don't have enough money to spend 3 or 4 hundred dollars on the original, and I've yet to find a cheap alternative online that's a Famicom light gun, NOT an NES one! I know the adapter is something I could use for both my Power Glove and NES Zapper, but I want the zapper to be a Famicom one. That, plus I wanted to repaint the white area of the NES Zapper black, to match the Famicom Twin I want to buy. If need be, I'd get another Zapper if I ever broke down and paid someone to fix my old NES system.

I have absolutely no skills with wiring. I don't want to develop those skills. I am, however, willing to pay someone else to do it for me. So please, stop telling me how to do it myself, because then it would never get done.

OK sorry I thought you misunderstood what I said earlier.

If you want Famicom peripherals to work on a NES you could check out Chykn's ENIO EXP Board but it might be a bit of an overkill if you just want to use one controller on the NES.

If you want to buy the DA-15 cable at Tototek & 2 NES controller extension cables (http://www.amazon.com/Extension-Cable-BRAND-Original-Nintendo/dp/B000NO4X10), send them to me and I'll make it for you for a small fee. Send a PM if you're interested.

Found a 2 port NES controller to Famicom extension port adapter from the same eBay seller I told you about. This time I checked. Again, I'm lazy, so I'll pay the 50 bucks for something that's already made. If it doesn't work, because they don't guarantee that it will, then we can talk about you making one for me. I'm thinking of a few projects that I might be able to send your way. When I can work out the logistics of what I want, I'll let you know. One is my theory that all you need for a Famicom Game Genie is to replace the NES plug for the carts on either end with a Famicom cart plug and 60 pins instead of 70. Am I right, or is that just a pipe dream?
