Hey guys I'm new here to the forums and today i'm writing about the trouble I am having with my FDS system. I got this system about 3-4 years ago and never had a stand alone famicom to test it with until recntly when I got a av fmicom to go along with this. When I busted it out of the box and hooked it up, I noticed it was making a weird noise which led me to belive the belt was busted. So, I had someone I know listen to it and he told me right away that the belt was snapped. Luckily the seller had an extra belt with the system so I knew right off the bat I was going to have to replace it. I have done work on a couple of systems so I felt that this wouldnt be as bad after watching some videos and stuff so I went though the process of getting the thing apart, removing the melted on belt and got the new belt on. So at this point I was ready to do the tests and was aware of the spindle hub adjust ment I needed to make and before even messing with that I went and tested the system. One of the first errors I had I think was error 27, then after some more tests I think I had 22 or a 21. So, I went back and did the spindle adjustment, did it wrong at first and looked at fds.com which shows the correct way to set the hub, so after all that I think I maybe got another error but tinkering around with it more I was able to get the thing to read side a on one of my disks but would get another error, error 22 with side b. After constant adjustments with the thing still no luck and either error 22 or 27. Another thing I wanted to point out throughout all of this was a washer that came off the hub, I have two washers I know the one was on the spindle hub. I'm not sure where the other one was mighthave been around the gear thing but I put that washer on and actually got my game to run when I did put it on. So knowing that it seemed promising but whenever I try to test I noticed a weird rubbing sound when it tries to read the disk, only on side b which does not sound normal. I left the thing alone for a week with out hope thinking I could get this to run so now I'm back at it with nothing but errors, error 22 mostly. Today my dad was able to get a eletronic caliper for the magnetic head and I messed around with that and the reading I got on the capiler was 10.71mm. FDS.com says it has to either be 10.68 or 10.72 so im not sure if it has to be exacly but I'm about to give up completely on this... I have a twin which works but I really wanted to be able to use my fds with my new av famicom and I cannot figure out anything else that could be wrong. I'm not even getting side a of my games to read so something must be really off. I have made a video which I can post a link to if you wanna take a look, near the end of the video I put my mic up to the disk while it trying to read it so you'll be able to hear the noise its making. I'm guessing maybe the gear mech might be on wrong but it looks right to me. I hope this helps anyone here who can get an idea of exactly whats wrong and appreciate your guys help, Thanks!!!!

Okay I just watched this and I have no idea why its shaky as hell, I'll try to fix this.

I'd try replacing that front black piece back onto the FDS before testing it after any adjustments. It's there to help the disk lay flat inside the drive.

Yeah, I left most of that stuff off due to testing I also am not putting all the springs back on the black disk slot thing so im not sure if thats affecting it or not. I have two new games a used game and just got metroid so I'm going to fool around with it tomorrow. I also am looking at a thread I just seen talking about how you should not mess with the spindle so now I'm regretting not looking on here first so I'm gonna keep at it. Thanks for the advice!

Frank_fjs

Those springs do make a difference, so leave them on when testing.

Also, try giving the head a good clean, this gets rid of error 27 a lot of the time.

Well, I spent a good amount of time this morning trying to get this working and I'm not getting anything but error 22 so somethings wrong and ive been moving the head around and the capliler is giving me different readings, As for the springs, they are nothing but a pain in the ass and one isn't even staying on the metal hook (stretched out) so I've had it with this thing. My only option is seeing if any of you guys can direct me to someone who would be happy to take alook at thins thing, fix it and tell me what I did wrong... I know its gonna cost me some money but I rather get this one that I have fixed than just buy a another one. So if you know someone I can message or talk to about sending this out sometime I'd appreciate it. Thanks Again for the help!

Can't see thru the wall of text if you disks are readable ???

P.S. I love to read, how you guys measuring 0.02mm tolerance on alloy parts. Just love it  ;D
I don't buy, sell or trade at moment.
But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy
