Pressing right/left also triggers up or down?

Hi, never got a chance to play on real famicom hardware. I've had bad luck with them always. So I've been using a higher end () famiclone for the past few years, but am tiring of it's controller. Is it a problem on real hardware that pressing the upper/lower portion of the right/left Dpad direction also triggers the up/down direction by mistake? (if that makes any sense)

The D-pads are different depending on what type of controller it is, I usually use an original NES controller with my Famicom, but occasionally I opt to use the dogbone controllers which came with the console instead. These types of controllers both have D-pads with completely different feels, but I can tell you that I've never found accidental crouching to be much of an issue with either of them, but I guess the sensitivity of the controls differs by game.

No I did not. I asked if this occurs on the real Famicom, as I plan on ordering a replacement soon.

Also, a NES controller mod, eh? I might have to look into that one.

I have the same issue with my Tomee NES Dogbone, but not on my official dogbone.

Hence, why I only use it when I play RPGs and such.

Most of the time controllers on Famiclones are really bad, so, yeah, you kind of answered your own question. 

This usually doesn't happen on a regular Famicom with original controllers, which have very nice D pads.

It's a very common problem on cheap controllers and controllers like the ones for X-box (damn I hate lousy d-pads). It never ever happened for me on any official Nintendo d-pad which is the reason I usually prefer Nintendo controllers. Sega and Sony make decent d-pads as well but Nintendo's d-pad is the best alternative to an arcade stick there is IMHO.

I suggest to either mod it with an official NES controller (not those replicas that you can find on ebay) or to finally get yourself a good Famicom with AV.

Yes, I've had trouble with modern consoles as well. Mainly the PS3 and it's ultra crappy D-pad. I'm defiantly going to buy real hardware soon... (and maybe a hori game pad too)
