Accidentally bought a pirated game?

The only one of my 50-some games I bought in Japan that just didn't work was Super Donkey Kong 3.

On my first try I got the game to start but the title screen started glitching and then I reset, and got this screen and now that's all I can get:

I've cleaned it as much and as good as any of the other games, I don't think it's that... maybe I should try it in my friends PAL snes and see if it's a pal game with a jap sticker on it or something

I get that message sometimes with my official carts. Are the pins worm out a bit? Maybe try tilting the cartridge or lifting it up a bit and see if that helps.

Cleaning is not always enough if the pins have oxidated too much.

have you tried blowing on the pins. the moisture usually makes them work.
