So I have not used my famicom disk system for more than a year . Do you think that the belt might have gone bad or that the dust might have damaged the reading head because it was sitting on a shelf for more than a year : ( .  My famicom controller broke and i never got around of getting a replacement so the console sat for a whole year unused.  I have also misplaced my power adapter so i will get a new one or probably just use batteries.

I had mine for almost 5 years since swapping the belt, and it hasn't broken yet. I mostly use the FDSStick nowdays though.

famifan

nope.

the belt could melt due to poor quality resin (well, actually not the poor quality just rather unprotected )

it's not in relation with time longevity anyway. if the resin was unprotected it will melt regardless of how frequently the FDS was used.

if belt was made from protected resin it could basically last over the decade. However, I believe it looses its strength somewhat faster than within a decade.

so, you don't have to worry about the belt after few years at the very least.

regarding the dust. i'd never cleaned the head of floppy drive on my PC for decades and it works flawlessly. so practically, the dust can't be the issue too. unless you're playing FDS in a sandstorm ;D
