UglyJoe

Here's a list of them:

SMB Utility is the best one, I think (it has a built-in emulator to quickly test your levels).

FamicomFreak

I agree SMB Utility is the best one of them all.

Hey!  I'm trying my hand at SMB Utility and I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know of any good tutorial on how to work this?  Preferably one without sh*tty music playing during it if it is a video, but- hey- beggars can't be choosers, can they?

2) Can I make levels from scratch or can I only change the material that is already in the Super Mario Bros. rom?
I really, really would prefer to start from scratch.

MarioMania

I'm bring this up again....

I want to hack Loopys MMC SMB2J is there a Level Editor like SMB Utility for Super Mario Bros. 2 (J)?

MasterDisk

Your best bet would be to find a IPS patch to modify the SMB1 rom to make it SMB2j like and modify it from there.

I haven't heard of any SMB2j editing tool.

Not to discourage anyone from wanting to make their own levels, but there are SO MANY rom hacks of SMB1 already, I''m sure you could get more than your fill by playing the dozens and dozens of existing hacks.

I'm more interested in pallete hacks and improvement hacks, the Castlevania 2 selection is great.
