Controller EXT port as JoyPad 1

Hello guys/grls, sup?

I´m new here , and have a question about the famicom ext. port. Could anyone help me?

Recently, I bought one weird 15 pin wireless controller for famicom/clones :

It works fine with any famicom carts that I've tested. When I use one adapter for 72 pin cartridges, something strange occurs : for one example, the Metroid cart works fine with the wireless controller, but Battletoads doesn't. Same occurs with Zelda 2 (both 72 pin carts).

I know that exist an address difference between the 15 pin ext por and the joypad port. Thinking about it, I've decided to wire up directly the controller receiver wires to the joypad port 1. I searched over the internet some electrical scheme and i followed the commons and soldered up :

15 pin port 15th pin (VCC) => Joypad Port 5th pin (VCC)
15 pin port 1st pin (GND) => Joypad Port 1st pin (GND)
15 pin port 14th pin (4016 CUP) => Joypad Port 4th pin (4016 CUP)
15 pin port  13th pin (4016 D1) => Joypad Port 2nd pin (4016 D0)
15 pin port 12th pin (OUT 0) => Joypad Port 3rd (OUT 0)

Nothing happened. Same behaviour as before.

Is there a possibility for the EXT port works as joypad 1 port?

Thanks in advance !

I'm not sure, but I think that tells you that it's the controller's/receiver's circuitry that's causing the problem, not the system.

That's an awesome looking controller, by the way :D

I can confirm that the Japanese version of Battletoads does not work with any expansion port controllers at all.  There are a few early games that don't, but Battletoads has to be one of the rare cases of a very late system-cycle game not working with it.

Adding some more infomation about the compatibility :

Games that I´ve tested and works fine :
:redcart:
72 pin :

- Nemo little dream master
- Mario Bros & Duck Hunt
- Tetris 2
- Adventure Island 2
- TMNT 3 Manhattan Project
- Zen Intergalactic Ninja
- Metroid
- Kirby

60 pin

- Ninja Gaiden
- Makai Mura
- Star Force
- Saint Seiya
- Wagyan Land 2
- Willow
- something like "pocketosaurs"

Games not working :o

72 Pin

- Battletoads
- Zelda 2
- Smash TV
- Mighty Final Fight

I'll try to test more games with my retrogamers friends... but i hope there is a way to force the ext port act like a joypad one...

or some kind of wireless mod to the controllers.... I've found mods for newer consoles, but nothing about famicom.

anyways thanks!

I was talking about this over here

http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=6701.0

Then the thread was derailed...

Super Mario 2 USA Famicom version and
Super Mario Bros 2 FDS will not work either.

Looking at this Famicom schematic, it is not possible to wire expansion port controllers as P1 as there is no 4016 D0 available on the expansion port.

I made a DB-15 to NES controller port adapter to use my third party pads on any game on my AV Famicom and US NES, of course that's not possible on the 1st model Famicom.

Just thought about something, my original Famicom is AV modded, I bypassed the whole RF circuit so the TV/Game switch serves no purpose, it is a SPDT (single pole double throw) switch if I rewired it to send 4016 D0 instead of  4016 D1 to the EXP port and back to normal it should make all third party controllers compatible, however the 1st player pad and the EXT pad would be wired in parallel, don't know if that would cause problems, I doubt it- Would have to try it.

I just wanted to confirm that both Doki Doki Panic for the FDS and Kirby for the Famicom work as Player 1 through the EXT port.
