Do Famicom carts usually rattle when you shake 'em?

nintendodork

A few of mine do...I think it just depends on various things (age, usage, etc.)

No, if yours does, it's got a broken bit of plastic inside.

Curse various Famicom cart producing companies (Including Nintendo) and their laziness :P

The boards inside are held in place by tabs and sometimes a hole through the board where a peg from the cart runs through. If any of those break, your board will be destabilized. Sometimes you get a nice jingle from the loose plastic piece. It seems to happen more with pirates than with licensed carts, for the obvious reason.

Bobinsky

Well, there is not anything apparently broken inside, it is just that the board is a wee bit loose.

FamicomFreak

Yes it's plastic broken inside. Sometimes you'll hear like there is something inside. Well the carts should work normally if you take care of them you know. I have a couple that do that I wonder how many beatings they went through before they came to paradise(me) wekekkee

Or even a capacitor some times :D

Doc

Yeah, a lot of mine do. They work just fine, as others before me have said, it's just a piece that was broken. It does make you wonder who the heck owned these things before you did... some of mine had dirt that was in places where I can't even fathom dirt getting into! :-\ Did these people bury their games in wet soil before sending them to me, sometimes?!

My Super Mario USA cart doesn't rattle so the Nintendo carts are a little bit better, even my Lagrange Point cart doesn't rattle so games licensed through Nintendo are still strong which means these were probably made with the same machines.

manuel

It all also depends on how "mistreated" the carts were through their lives.
