What's the deal with Neunzehn?

I've never heard anyone talk about this game, but I always see it for sale and it's not cheap. What genre is it, is it any good, why is it expensive?

It is a strategy game in the mold of Risk or Civilization.

As to why it is so expensive?!  I have no idea.  It sells for 10,000Y+ CIB in Japan, but doesn't sell as well in the West.

I do however have a CIB copy in my store, on the cheap too.

Oh, yeah!  I've seen 19 go for quite a bit on eBay too.  I think 16-Bit had one...

I'm guessing it's quite difficult to play without Japanese knowledge. One more question, why does it have a German title?

Actually, the cover looks pretty Greek to me.

Looks like some busts of of Greek Gods with Olympus in the background.

You are correct Carl.

That temple in the background is an approximation of an early Greek temple. The columns are what gives it away - they are of the doric order. The columns in the cover art do no posses a base or any discernible capital, leading me to believe that they are indeed from the Doric order.  This is opposed to ionic or Corinthian columns, which are primarily found in Roman architecture. Which is not to say that the Romans didn't use doric columns, but it is more a trademark of early Greek architecture.

Also, the nature of the crepidoma (the stepped foundation) and the building's proportions all point towards that the image on the cover is an attempt at rendering the Parthenon - which is THE example of a Greek temple.

Although, one of the previous posters wasn't too far off saying it looked Roman - Roman architecture is a direct reflection on and reference to the values of Greek architecture.

It has a German title because German sounds "mysterious" and/or "cool" to the Japanese.

That's why there are lots of games and anime/manga with German titles, that not often make sense.
