Famicom Player 2 Start/Select?

Hello!

I've recently become drawn to the Famicom and plan on owning one soon. The main selling point was a cheap adapter that allowed me to play US games on it, as I got a buncha NES cartridges that I want to play but no NES.

However, my main concern was the controllers that aren't interchangeable. My favourite NES game hands down is Tengen's Vindicators (a GOOD unlicensed game!) but the game uses the Select button to change the player's secondary weapon. The game is also two-player co-op. If I played it on a Famicom, the second player could not switch weapons.

What kind of workarounds are there for this? I was looking into getting a Twin Famicom system by Sharp since I want to play FDS games too and don't feel like buying an extra adapter. (I also like the look of it)

Is it possible to replace the second controller with a standard NES controller? Or even just with a Player 1 controller from another Famicom? Can I use the extra controller port on the Famicom to replace player 2's controls with another controller? Any better solutions?

I'd really appreciate the opinions before I go and order one. Thanks! :)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I don't care about the Microphone either.

The easiest solution is to buy an AV Famicom and an FDS. But other members might have solutions. I know the trouble caused by having no Start/Select on the second controller. I can't play my NWC repro on my Famicom because the NWC requires the second controller to have those buttons to start the game.

Ouch... sucky...

Well I looked on eBay, and it would be a lot more expensive to buy a AV Famicom and the FDS adapter. I think I'll wait for another answer.

Thanks though. Good suggestion, and will use it as a last resort. :)

Yes, yes and yes.

I'm more interested in using the controller port for the second player's controls. Where can I find one? I get confused at the stores online since they don't specify which player they work for... or does it always just replace player 2's?

Most(well... Some) 3rd party controllers I've seen have a switch that lets you select whether the controller is for player 1 or 2.

Also, Hi! :D

Edit: Like this switch.

ENEMY!! ARE YOU ROGLES??

Haha! Sorry I couldn't resist. Now I feel like playing Syd Valis... thanks a lot. :P

But yeah, hi!  :)

Alright. I like that idea the most. Any particular brand I should watch out for? These stores don't seem to specify the switch.

Eh... If it's not in a picture of the product, I'd just assume there isn't one.
