Why is it that some famicom games are published by "Namcot" and not "Namco"? are they two different companies, or did Namco change its name?

The company was originally called Namcot, and for whatever reason, they dropped the "T" and became Namco.

basically says only in japan when they were making games for the famicom they went under the moniker namcot.
