I was in one of  my local retro game shops today and they were having the most amazing sales event imaginable:  800 yen (8$) retro-game shopping sprees!

For 800 yen you get a little basket and then you can cram it with as many retro games from their massive selection as possible!  I squeezed in 14 Famicom games, 8 Gameboy games and 2 N64 games.

The only downside was that the racks had been well-picked over by the time I went on my spree (and the better games they keep in the glass cases weren't included), but I still got a pretty good haul.  I put a picture of what I got here:

Funny how when you find a bargain the first thing you want to do is tell everybody about it, I haven't even played any of the games yet and I'm already writing about it here and on my blog.

Wow, that was great, outside Japan prices always tend to be higher than that.

Wish I could go some day to Japan.

yeh, good score! if you haven't played it already start with Air Fortress, some great music and fun gameplay.

Yes, everyone with an interest in Famicom should make a trip to Japan someday!  Make sure you come on the days when they have blow-out sales like this and you can score 90% discounts on stuff that was pretty cheaply priced to begin with (well, not that you can know when they'll have them in advance but....)

I popped in Air Fortress on your suggestion Zappi and you are right - that is a really good game.  Pretty good graphics too.

Learning Japanese seems rather difficult, though.

It is but Kanji seems to not be needed so much as before, Katakana is more helpful and easier than Kanji.

Some day I intend to go to Japan, but dunno when, maybe when I'm rich xD

Yeah, Japanese is hard.  I've been living here on and off since the late 1990s (about 7 years total actually in Japan) and my Japanese still sucks.

And I went back for another round of 800 yen shopping spree today.  With some better-planned space management I was able to get a slightly bigger haul:  19 Famicom games and 9 Gameboy games.

Mind you, I was shoving them in so tightly that I accidentally cracked the plastic basket - a fact that did not go unnoticed by the cashier who gave me a "you really are pushing your luck" look.

Within 7 years that should have be emended by now, at least you should know Katakana in Japanese, it isn't as hard as Kanji.

I'll probably never understand Kanju but if I study Katakana, yep.

It's disappointing going to a new country and not know their language, I would feel very uncomfortable and very limited. :-\

Yes, Katakana and Hiragana you can learn in about 1 week of cramming.  I've been studying kanji for over a decade now and I still can't read a newspaper without heavily relying on a dictionary.

Nensondubois, unfortunately I didn't see Pokonyan, I take it that is the one you are looking for?

Bring abroad and sell it for more than it cost you, that'd be what I'd do. ;D

In Japan things like Famicom systems, games, etc.. Are cheap but remember that outside things are different, prices aren't low as in Japan. And taking this advantage you'd earn quite a nice profit.
