I saw a couple auctions that a couple of our fellow board members are bidding on.  I wanted to bid on them too but I am going to respect their bids.  So I will not bid. However, if the item is pretty rare or unique, I will bid.

Does anyone agree or should it be a free market system?

Thoughts?

Hmm, although i wouldnt wanna snipe them like a jerk if a forum member was bidding, i think its okay to bid if you want them item too, at least I wouldnt mind

but only if you really want it or if its the only one available for auction, if theres more then one near the same price just get the other one

I'd PM the user and discuss the issue. By now theres a lot of people on this board who are familiar with what certain people like to collect, so if I find an item I'm sure someone I know on the board would be interested in I usually PM them. That way, if something pops up on ebay that you missed, someone may return the favor and send you a link.

I'm with veal. The two of us have come across items in the past that we were both interested in, and we discuss it to see who will bid. I like to swamp links with members as well, and try to help out other members with what they're looking to buy -- so again agree with veal. Most of the time, though, I bid without knowing who from the forum might also be bidding. I'm sure some accidents will happen. :) For the sake of keeping the forum civil, it would no doubt be best to resist bidding when you know another member has found the auction and will/did bid. But at the same time, some items are simply fair game, the stuff that doesn't pop up very often. And...if you don't want other members bidding, don't post a link in the auctions forum, that's for sure.
