Does anyone know or know guides for how to dump ROM's of NES, famicom pirate games?

mgman

(Since it's me, it should be no surprise) The games I'd like to (try to) dump:

Desert Storm (pirate original by Waixing)
Behind Enemy Lines (Super Contra Japan graphics hack)
X-Plan (graphics hack of Contra Force)
New Contra (earliest version of Super Contra 7)
4-in-1 FK-8134

Just having a dumper isn't enough, since so many pirates have copy protection. Just all the notes kevtris showed me once for how he bypassed copyright protection in Earthworm Jim 2 showed me that a simple dump doesn't work. Unfortunately you have to be more technically skilled to figure that stuff out, leaving it difficult to get any of your undumped stuff dumped.

Unlss you want to send it off to an expert. Which risks the games getting lost or never getting sent back :X For really rare pirates it's the last thing I'd want to do  :-\

mgman

Meh, the rarity of pirates isn't an importance to me (:P) since many I got that can be considered rare were pretty damn cheap (please don't shoot me guys XD). I think the bigger issue would be of course, that it gets lost or the guy I send it towards simply keeps it without doing any ROM dumping :)

Bramsworth

Well, kevtris is the guy to go to really. He made CopyNES, and from what he's told me, a good majority of pirates out there were dumped by him. Only problem is I sent him three games to dump, and once he did he never sent them back. I've contactd him a couple times since then and had promises that he'd send them back, but it's yet to happen. I guess I should be a bit more persistent. It's probably been over 6 months now though.

Keep in mind that Kevin is 1tremely busy with legitimate work and he's doing you a favour simply by dumping the games at all.

He'll probably send them when he has time, but that could take a long while. Did he send you the dumps yet?

Bramsworth

Yeah, the dumps have been available for awhile now. They're A'can games.

I know he's probably busy. I'm not holding anything against him, I know he's a good guy.

mgman

Interesting. Anybody got contact info for Kevtris?

mgman

Oh, that's not a problem. So could someone please give me some current contact info?

Bramsworth

A more direct approach is go to the MESS emulator channel on IRC, EFnet at #messdev. He's usually on there everyday,
