hi guys,

i have a spare hatris pcb (no cart plastics) and just wondered if there is anything i can do with it i.e homebrew/hack/conversion?

wouldn't mind trying hitler no fukkatsu before i buy it as bionic commando looks a bit anemic compared.

sorry if its a no no to ask  :-[

cheers

Certainly, if you have a programmer, you could swap out the ROMs: The Famicom 'Hatris' is UNROM though (with vertical mirroring), so you won't be able to run MMC1 PRG/CHR ROMs (e.g. 'Hitler no Fukkatsu').

I don't recall if the Special Red  Wii release of 'Donkey Kong' (a.k.a. 'Donkey Kong Arcade') is UNROM or CNROM, but that may be a possibility.  I think it is UNROM, though 'DK Classics' is CNROM, so I may be mistaken.  :bomb:

The Wii Donkey Kong or "Donkey Kong Pie Factory" is CNROM. Only Japanese UNROM games I can think of off the top of my head is David Bowie's Labyrinth & Shufflepuck Cafe.....

according to this Hatris is SNROM and so is Top Secret, so you might be in luck there... (here's a list of FC and NES SNROM games). but I don't claim to be an expert on these things so there might be some reason why it won't work.

(Or you could wear it as a hat)

Nope, that's wrong. 'Hatris' for the Famicom is a totally different game from the NES version. The FC cart is UNROM and the NES version is SNROM/MMC1. The NES version is also the superior of the two for many reasons. :bomb:

That page is the Famicom version though - it even says "HVC-SNROM-09" on the PCB.

Hm.. I'll double check my physical cart. The NES & FC Mapper Database lists it as UNROM, which is a generally reliable source, so I don't know why it'd be incorrect, but photographic evidence seems to point otherwise. I suppose it's in error, and I'll need to submit a revision.  Thanks for that.

It does lead me to wonder why the FC version is so poorly done as compared to the NES release. I'll need to see if BPS was not involved with that version or if there is some other reason for the change. :bomb:
