Yes and the original NES-001 as well except some non-Scandinavian European models. The dogbone controlers are normal NES controlers just shaped differently as I understand it. It even has the same plug. Thus you can use normal NES controlers for the AV Famicom as well, but not all NES peripherals like the Zapper (without modifications to the console) works.

Okay, good to know... I have so little knowledge of NES..

What European models use a different controller? There aren't any as far as I have ever heard, or seen.

You can use the 'NES Zapper' after a slight modification on the 'New Famicom (A/V)'.  :bomb:

Yeah. Even the Asian NES released in South Korea and neighboring countries used the NES-004.

There are a European model named "NESE-001" (instead of the "NES-PAL-001" released in Scandinavia) released in Germany and some other countries that imports from Germany or so I heard. It supposedly can be identified by the blue power outlet (instead of black) on the back, and it has some extra components inside it.

What's special about it is that it requires it's own special AC-Adapter and controllers, but other peripherals like the Zapper works on it. These special controllers are model "NES-004E" (instead of "NES-004" but they look exactly the same and has the same plug) and they are universal and should work on Scandinavian/Asian/American NESes as well.
I also heard that you can easily modify a normal NES-004 controller to work with it.

Note that I have no experience with this model myself and can't confirm any of it. This is just what I heard from others.

So fredJ what I meant is that the dogbone controllers are like normal NES controllers and work on every NES that normal NES controllers work on. It doesn't work on these German models but neither will other normal NES controllers.

There that should hopefully clear up my first confusing post...

The Scandinavian NES-PAL-001 and American NES-001 uses the same controller - NES-004. NES-004E can be used with them without any problem, including the 'dogbone'.
The European NESE-001 however, can only use the NES-004E controller. But it's pretty easy to modify the NESE-001 to be able to use any controller.

Just some diodes in the controllerport that need to be bridged.

The same applies to the 4-score. European one works with every NES, but only with 004E controllers. Scandinavian 4-score works with any controller but not European NES.

Is the Japanese AV Famicom dogbone in fact identical to the US New Famicom dogbone ? They look the same now that I look at some pics...

Almost.
From what I can find the Famicom's controller have a shorter cord (half the length) then the US one. The rest should be the same.
